Triton's Disappointing

We had a very enjoyable 4-day cruise earlier this month, the report for which you can find at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=699937.

But I wanted to report that I found Triton's disappointing. We had the TAPT rotation and so ate at Triton's twice. BOTH times my entree was a disaster! It's probably just my bad luck, but here are the details.

The first night I ordered the braised lamb shank. It arrived in an inedible state, badly overcooked, dried out, and tough as shoe leather. I almost never send a dish back, but I had to ask for a replacement.

The last night ("Master Chef") I ordered the Seafood Linguini Pasta. It turned out to be nothing but naked boiled/broiled seafood dumped on naked spaghetti. No preparation, no sauce, no spices, no nothing. I order seafood pasta dishes frequently and this was the first time I've seen this approach! It was the worst seafood pasta dish I've had in a long time. At least they could have opened a jar of Prego or something. A major disappointment, especially as a so-called "Master Chef" dish!

The appetizers and desserts were fine, but in general nothing special. I thought our meal at Animator's Palate was better.

Our service was excellent all around; my only problem is with the kitchen.

The best meals of the cruise (in order) were Palo Dinner, Palo Champagne Brunch, Embarkation Buffet at Parrot Cay, Lunch at Cookie's on Castaway Cay

Triton's/Lumiere's is my favorite of all the restaurants. I have only had one dish that I didn't care for - but it wasn't the preparation - just not my taste. The server noticed that I was 'picking' at it & brought something else that was delicious. I have found all my meals there to be much better than the other rotation restaurants. :D

I don't know if there is a huge difference between the Magic & Wonder as far as food quality but I really enjoyed the seafood linguini and found the seasoning quite good. I was happy that the oysters were still in the shell so that it was easy to eliminate them from my dinner. :) I know that you will get different opinions in the same dining room on the same cruise though.

I've never enjoyed my meals in Tritons -- never been able to find a decent entree. However, Lumiere's suprised me and was okay on my last cruise. Same dishes, just better prepared.

Still, I like Animator's and Parrot Cay better. :D

Found all three restaurants to be fine on the Magic. Remember, they all share the same kitchen so preparation should be identical. Didn't try Palo.

I went on the galley tour on our 12/4 cruise and there are totally seperate kitchens for each of the dining rooms. We went thru Lumiere's & Parrot Cay. It was very neat to see everything. They do have the kid's food line in Lumiere's with two cooks of it's own so everyone needs to go there for the kid food during lunch & dinner. They also have their own cold pantry and desert set up area. We got to see one of the chefs decorating a wedding cake for a reception that evening. It was beautiful!

I was on the 12/11/04 Magic and had the seafood linguini. I'm very picky about my seafood and thought this dish on the Magic to be good. My only complaint was the mussels were a bit over-cooked.
