PART 2 ADDED BELOW REPLIES

Cast:
Me (20) Disney lover who's visited DLP and WDW twice each.
Girlfriend (20, now 21) another Disney fanatic who has visited DLP twice.
Both fans of the Disney of our childhood- Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King etc.

Day 2 (7th September)

Woke up bright and early, despite our late night, and raring to go have fun in the parks! We were in plenty of time for our alloted breakfast time (no Fantasyland Breakfasts available, so eating in the hotel) and wandered down to the utter chaos of the cantina! Breakfast was plentiful, but I'm not a big breakfast person, so didn't eat all that much. DP enjoyed it very much however! Plenty of rolls, meat, cheese (!) and cereals. Fruit is extra though, unfortunately. A bit of a queue for the hot drinks, and to all you tea-drinkers out there, hunt around for tea bags, I couldn't find them first time and was very distressed, but they are there!

After spending a while over breakfast we saw the huge queue for the shuttle bus and decide to walk, by the time we got to the park it was around 10.45 and the crowds were steady, but far from big! There was a band playing in the Main St bandstand which was lovely.

We wandered down main st (DP says Main Street is her 'happy thought' and whenever she gets ratty with heat and crowds to bring her here!) and watched the little kids go all gooey in front of the Princesses who had their picture opportunity slot down near the castle.

Checking the map it was nearly time to get tickets for the 12 oclock Lion King show, so we dutifully joined the huge line for tickets (worrying we were accidentally queuing to see Goofy!). The queue was huge, but it was more a stationary waiting area, as once the time came to start handing out tix the line was very fast moving and we were out of the system with out tickets in hand within 10 minutes or so.

This left enough time for the nearby fun of STAR TOURS! I love this ride loads, and DP couldn't remember if she had done it (this would be a recurring theme!), the queue was about 10 minutes, half of that waiting outside the doors to the 'vehicle'. The ride was fun, although I think less 'thrilling' than the one in WDW, am I imagining things?

After that it was about time for the LION KING- hoorah! Me and DP had both seen (and adored) the stage show in London, so were someone sceptical about this! But it turned out to be great- I didn't like the big model Simba with the creepy eyes though! But the dancing and singing was very impressive!

Afterwards, still humming the tunes, we decide it was time to face the fear of SPACE MOUNTAIN. Very short queue again, I panicked through most of it about my bag 'will it fall off?! what if i lose my camera? what if I fall of?!'' etc. etc. and was, I have to admit, absolutely petrified when we were loaded into the rocket-thing! From the outside it looks like the cars are blasted off fairly slowly, but it was SO fast! I screamed for the first few seconds, then was 'wooo'-ing all the way round! I can't remember enough detail to compare to the original ride, but I think it was darker and with better sound/light effects. I LOVED the bit where you go through the red streaky tunnel thing. Absolutely amazing ride!

By this point we were feeling the heat, and decided to wander over to the Studios and maybe get some lunch before we tackled more of the Disneyland Park. DP was getting a bit over-heated, and we needed a sit down and some shade! So we meandered back up Main Street and enjoyed the very short hop over to the Studios.

Of which....more soon! And pictures, I promise!

Very interesting thank you - loved the photo of the band too. Looking forward to more!!

I've often wondered if the bandstand gets used, thanks for that and what a lovely report.

Great instalment, how lovely to see a band there. You are VERY brave to do Space Mountain! :cheer2:

Okay, I can do the thumbnails again, woo hoo! :cool1:

Where are we? Ah yes, its hot, we're hungry and we're heading out of Disneyland Parc to the Studios. And can I just say once more how much I LOVE not having to get a boat/train/monorail/helicopter to get between parks here!

First impressions of the studios: it's modern, clean and just...modern! Much less magical, and I think coming into the forecourt part where there is no exciting architecture is a shame. Entering into the Studio 1 area (excuse if I get the names wrong, the covered area) and it's much more exciting, you can feel the movie magic!

I've been to Hollywood, and I sure wish it did look like this! We wander through, noting the plentiful shopping opportunities, and emerge in the outdoor areas of the studios, which are once more, just modern and not that exciting-looking.

It's nearing time for the Movie Parade, so we decide to grab a drink in the shade before we watch it. It's so hot by this point, that even the 10 mins we stand waiting for the parade are pretty uncomfortable! But we get an excellent view, and DP takes some pics:

<a href="http://photobucket.com/albums/b366/missj171/P9080064.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://photobucket.com/albums/b366/missj171/th_P9080064.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com/albums/b366/missj171/P9080062.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://photobucket.com/albums/b366/missj171/th_P9080062.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com/albums/b366/missj171/P9080061.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://photobucket.com/albums/b366/missj171/th_P9080061.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>

This parade is quite fun, not as good as the one in the main park, but there being much fewer crowds makes the atmosphere more 'friendly', and its nice to see the Lion King float!

After the parade (quite short!) we follow the flocking crowds to the Tram Tour attraction (I am very bad with names, and don't have my map/guide with me!) - but Iwouldnt recommend doing this at peak times, as so many people made this choice!. We didn't realise (despite it being in Simon's book) about the different language areas, but manage to be in the English/French one anyway. The tour is shady (hoorah!) and long, which is nice. The bits where you go past bits of scenery weren't all that thrilling, especially as neither of us knew what they were from, but the fire parts were very cool! Or rather very hot! Especially the 'Reign of Fire' part, wow!

After the tour we realised we still hadn't eaten, and I hadn't even had much breakfast, so we went to the indoor area again for lunch. DP was feeling a bit iffy from the heat, so had just a salad (quite big though, and about 3euros, a good option for the health conscious/budget minded) and I had burger and fries (around 6euros). Suitably recharged we decided to have a whirl on the Flying Carpets over Agrabah, which was very fun and nice to feel the breeze up in the air! About a 5-10 minute wait for this.

Next we crossed the park to the RnRC area, but DP decided she wasn't quite feeling up to it, so we decide to see what Armageddon involved! We had literally no idea what this was (and again, DP forgot she'd done it before!) and after the lengthy pre-show (yawn!) we were ushured into the spaceship area. I have to say I found this attraction very impressive, effects-wise, but also very scary!! The heat and air and breaking spaceships are all very convincing, me and DP were quite alarmed! And the kids near to us even more so. I would say that even if your kids can take the big coasters, think carefully about this ride, the confined space, heat and hot steam are quite uncomfortable even for adults!

After being destroyed by meteors we thought we'd have a go at the RnRC, but alas, it had some kind of technical flaw - which is something I NEVER like to hear! They didn't know when it would be running again.

Dismissed from an extreme experience, we decided to go for the opposite, and made our way over to the last showing of Animagique. Hoorah, it was cool inside the theatre with comfy chairs, much appreciated! I absolutely adored this show, I expected it to be a film, so was very happily surprised by the combination of 'actors' and puppetry and all the special effects.

I was even more delighted by the 'Pink elephants' number - this song never gets played! And the people in pink elephant costumes (sorry, the elephants!) looked so squishy and cuddly! I would SO have bought a toy of them if there was one, missed merchandising opportunity there, Disney bosses! Anyway I was extremely enchanted by all of this, and so was DP, and we left humming 'la la la Animagique...' alll the way back to the main park.

More pictures and my outrage at bad parenting to come soon!

Lovely details and interesting report - thank you! Must say, I agree about the studios - very little atmosphere but it will improve as they start to add more attractions over there. Looking forward to more info and photos!!

I guess it's because the main park is all about atmosphere. But the Studios has a lot of potential I think, and a lot of good attractions for rainy days! I think they could do more themeing though, take Universal Studios (not IoA, that's fab!), that's a bit more characterful, but still has the basic movie-lot theme.

I wish I had taken more pics of general things around the parks, but we misunderstood my camera read out. It had a number of pics taken, and a number of pics stored. We thought the taken was how many were on the camera, and so deleted a lot of 'scenery' shots to make way for more of us (egotistical!) which is a shame! Although I think they were mainly of the castle..

My digi pics are on my laptop, which is at Uni, and I'm at home, so no more picture reports for now I'm afraid... sad! You'll have to wait until the weekend!

Enjoyed reading about your opinions on the Studios. Isn't Animagique great!! :cool1:

Thank you for the reports. :) I like the parade at the studios, I can hear the song now! Lights, Camera....!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the Lion King show for the first time in October.

Thoroughly enjoying your report Missj171 - it's great fun!! :goodvibes Looking forward to the next installment. :)

Really enjoying your report!!

I so agree about the missed merchandising opportunity for Animagique characters.

I really enjoyed reading your report.:goodvibes

I am looking forward to doing Animagique at Christmas. We deliberately left some things to do then and that is one, along with Cinemagique.
