I just read that tripods are available at the photo places at WDW. Does anyone know if you can rent them and how much they are or if they are just for purchase? And does anyone know the makes of the ones available?

I have taken my own tripod on many trips.

I have a very lightweight one (Walmart, etc, under $20 to buy) just for use on vacation.

Don't think you can rent them from WDW.

available to buy, yes... to rent, not so much. Also keep in mind if you have anything near a prosumer set up... some CMs will give you a ration about where you are set up for parades and such.

I honestly don't know if they're available to rent, but as a PP said, you can buy fairly inexpensive ones that are nice and compact and can either fit into your existing camera bag or have their own little sling-type bag for carrying.

I've never dragged one along, myself, but have made ample use of railings and trash cans as improvised tripods. I also made a smallish beanbag to rest the camera on for this last trip; it really helps "level out the horizon" when you are stuck with a crooked trash can or angled railing. :)

I've moved this thread to the Photography board. If there's anybody who can answer your questions, it'll be one (or more) of the experts here. :)

I've never see it come up where tripods are available for rent. I have a number of different tripods including one I've brought to Disney twice that when folded up is 13.5" and fits nicely in my backpack. I also brought a full sized tripod into MK one night.

There are lockers at the enterance to all the parks and they will fit most full sized tripods (up to about 22" in length when folded up).

For my Manfrotto tripod I have a carry bag that also has a strap to go over my shoulder. Its pretty easy to carry around that way.

Gorillapods are easy to setup on trashcans and around railings and they're not to expensive and are easy to carry around. If you only have a PnS camera then you can also get a small table top tripod that may fit in your pocket.
