Tripod for the parks....(need suggestions)

I want to take those nice HDR photo's and fireworks shots. I do more video production then photography, so all I have is big heavy fluid head tripods.

Can you give me some suggestions on good lightweight tripods that I can easily travel with and carry around the world.

I picked up a new tripod right before our last trip. While not cheap, I very highly recommend this setup. It was light, stable, and fast to setup and breakdown. Click the picture for details including model numbers.

I was able to take some nice fireworks and HDR shots, and in fact, I think this Gitzo was more stable than my old aluminum Manfrotto. Check out my Disney set on flickr for examples.

I would even suggest looking at getting a monopod which would be much easier to pull out in a snap and lug around...

Another thought might be a gorillaPod. Small and you can wrap it around a pole or what have you.

That Adorama article lists some good options. I've got an older version of the Velbon and like it. The Benro Travel Agents also looks good, although I'd like to try one out in person before making a purchase. A monopod is OK if you need stability for a quick shot, but night/fireworks shooting pretty much requires a tripod for the longer exposures.

I picked up a Trek Pod for a trip to the Galapagos (weight and space were issues, plus it could be used as a walking stick). While not the most stable, it did a decent job. It is a carbon fiber monopod that has legs that open up to form a tripod. With a big lens (100-400) it is a bit wobbley (I wouldn't walk away from it) but with a small, wide angle lens it is good. Comes in 4 sections I believe, plus a small table top version in a carry case.

I have a less expensive one from manfrotto that is great for travel and sturdy too.
