I am just now able to do this post. We were supposed to leave Friday May 5.
While at my job Thursday afternoon my husband called me at work and dropped the bomb. His factory had been sold and employees had to be there
Monday morning to fill out job applications with the new owners to try and keep their jobs. Even people on medical and those out of town have to be there. My DH has 22 years in and so we had no choice but to canel our trip.
The dog sitter was already at our home, luggage was packed and we were ready to go, we were staying up by Detroit airport Thursday night to fly out Friday morning. The worst part was unpacking. I am feeling a little better today after being in shock on Thursday and crying Saturday.

On the positive side- Southwest is terrific, they have no change fees, I just have the amount I paid for our tickets to go towards new tickets, I got a great dael of 97.00 pp for out tickets with a ding special.

Disney was wonderful and so helpful. I rescheduled everything for October 27-November 4, they let me move the funds over to the new date without any penalties, and since we have more time we are moving from the CBR to the WL. They also let mo move my HDR diner and my KTTK tour. So I didn't loose any money, But I ahve to wait 6 more months...It seems like a lifetime.

I am almost done feeling sorry for myself now...But in my mind I know that today was Ecpot and lunch at Chef De France.....and so on...

I feel better just getting this out, I know there are much worse things that could have happened. But when you are a TA of 15yrs with a severe Disney
addiction this is pretty bad.

Everyone have a great day and thanks for listening to me whine a little, it was very theraputic.

:grouphug:

I'm sorry that happened. I am glad that you were able to reschedule without penalties though :thumbsup2

Aww, I'm so sorry you had to delay your trip. I would be majorly disappointed! Alot of people say planning the trip is the best part, so now you have 6 more months to plan! I know, doesn't really help but I tried.... LoL.

Fingers crossed that your dh has no trouble keeping his job!

How disappointing for you!

But also: how great that you still get to go! Sounds like everything worked out OK in the end - now you can spend 6 months on the Dis Forums waiting impatiently with the rest of us :thumbsup2

I feel your pain. I am glad you got to reschedule everything without difficulty.
All the best to your hubby with his new job.

Have fun re-planning!!

I'm sorry you had to reschedule too! Sometimes I enjoy the anticipation sooo much and then something happens and it is hard to overcome the disappointment! But ... hang in there.

I hope all goes well with your DH's job ... and six months will pass rather quickly. Now you can read more tips ... (ha ha - sounds like you might be able to SHARE lots of tips!!)

The dog is probably happy .... (my pets HATE for me to leave!) Good luck -- I think November will be good for you too!

For the kind words. If my DH can just get through this job transition I will be able to breathe a little better.

How terribly disappointing it must have been for you. I'm glad you were able to reschedule without financial penalty, that has to take some of the sting out for you.

My fingers are crossed for your hubby and I hope you enjoy the postponed trip twice as much as you would have!

Good luck!

:sunny:

Hugs to you :grouphug: ! It is so disappointing. It happened to me too. I had the van packed, we were to leave in the morning. DH called at 2:30 and said we couldn't go. I did lose some $ from my disney reservation, I cancelled, didn't change it. I'm glad you have already yours rescheduled. We did get to take our trip 4 months later and it was fabulous! Good luck to you and your DH.

So sorry to hear about your husband. That is just horrible. Not to give you more to think about, but any new company taking over that is going to treat the employees that way may not be a company your husband will want to stay with. If they were a company that cared about their employees, they would take over, but leave everything status quo for a short time, evaluate things and give everyone some time to "interview" for their jobs. 22 years is a long time...is your husband close to retirement age? If not, he may want to get "hired" by the new company in his "old" job, but look at a competitor for another opportunity.

The good thing is that you didn't lose any money, and were able to reschedule. You will now have 6 months to anticipate the Disney Magic, and more time to do some additional planning. Check out the planning Spreadsheet that I did for our trip last month!

I tell you what - to move from Caribbean Beach to the Wilderness Lodge? I'd wait six months!!!! :teeth:

Bummer that you had to cancel, but I'm glad you were able to reschedule and even upgrade.

Have a WONDERFUL trip in November!!!! :)

to hear about your trip. But, take comfort in the fact that you'll be going before you know it, you didn't lose any money...and like you said you're upgrading to WL. Just obsess on that trip and plan plan plan!

I so sorry, best of luck to you and your husband with the job situation. It's wonderful that Disney and the airline were able to make it work for you so that you can go later in the year. Try looking at the bright side, it's lovely in FL at the time you're going and WL is supposed to be fantastic!

So sorry about everything. I must applaud your postive attitude! :thumbsup2

Good luck with everything.

It must have been tough, but you gotta do what you gotta do! Knowing WDW Magic, though, you'll probably have an even more incredible time now!

Pixie Dust to you and your family!

Two years in row I had Xmas (first week in Dec) reservations and I had to cancel them both. In 2005 I came with a major medical problem and could not go. then last year I was hospitalize with a stroke and could not go again. We are DVC members so I did lose any money that way, but I bought Xmas party tickets both year and I lost that. I had tour scheduled and lost money on that. I finally went April 22, 2006 and a blast. I really appricated Disney more that than had in past. We were quite often and I taken it for granted. Then when I could not go I realized what great place this and how I missed it.

I have schedule another trip for Dec and I do hope will be able to go. I am little hestiant about Xmas party tickets, from the past couple of years. :santa:

I can feel your pain! So sorry for you and your Husband. HOWEVER on the positive side, you can re do your ADRs, have more time to save, and get tickets for the MNSSHP!!!! Which will be great fun.

Loads of pixie dust to you, and try to keep things in focus, you and those around you are fit and healthy. You WILL get to the Magic, some people never ever do.

Good luck for your DH on mnday, re applying for his job.

Just think how happy you'll be on October 27th --you get to go to WDW instead of being home!!

You will be sooooo happy!!
