hey guys i am trying to plan a trip in may to new york.. i dont know where to start though...

does anyone have any good sites, or message boards i can visit ? thanks

Trip advisor is a good site. There are plenty of sites that will come up if you type New York Tourism.

Thanks!!!! I've been checking that site out i was just hoping for a message board lol

Trip advisor does have a forum where you can post your questions. There have been lots of posts here on the Dis about travel to NYC, but I'm not sure if that's the area of NY you want info on or not. What part of NY do you want to visit?

AOL has a NYC message board in their travel section that I like to use sometimes. Alot of locals are on there....they have the board divided between NYC dining, general NYC, and NYC hotels.

When I was planning our trip to NYC, I found the frommers website to be very handy.

It's www.frommers.com

Click on "Travel Talk" and find NYC. People ask questions and others answer, kind of like the disboards. There's a ton of great info there.

Have fun!!

I live in NJ right over the river from NYC so if you have any questions please feel free to PM me. I know there are some hotels I would not recommend in NYC due to bed bugs.

We're going to NYC too!! So far, I've been browsing http://www.iloveny.com and http://www.nyctourist.com and I've bought a guide. We're only going to have a little bit of time for sightseeing, so that makes it tough.

Hope you have a great trip!

-ps- RickinNYC -- what would be your top tourist destinations? Since we don't have alot of free time, we probably are looking to keep it on Manhattan. Thanks!!!!

Depends on how much time you have. You don't have to leave Manhattan to catch a view of Statue of Liberty from Battery Park City. then you can stroll over to Ground Zero so you can see American history at work.

Hope the subway and go to SoHo/Little Italy/Chinatown.

Back on the subway and meander Times Square, then a quick walk to Rockefeller Center and then up 5th Avenue which would allow you some shopping. Plus, you'd get easy access to Central Park to boot.

You can take a detour in the above and go to Empire State Building for some great views as well. Or skip that and go to Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) for equally great views.

There's also MoMa (super convenient in midtown), Metropolitan Museum of Art (HUGE and you can take all day if you have the time), Museum of Natural History (great if you have kids and took them to see Night at the Museum).

I forgot to add to the above: And sprinkle liberally with martinis to taste. :thumbsup2
