We are leaving New Orleans on Saturday March 5 pulling our camper

I am hoping to make it to within 2 or 3 hours of Disney so when we wake up on Sunday we can get to the Fort early.

?'s:

When is the earliest you can check in at Fort Wilderness? Our reservation is for Sunday(6th) through Saturday(12th) I was thinking of just hanging around the Fort and maybe taking the kids on the monorail Sunday and gearing up for our big day Monday morning.

What are some suggestions to do Sunday to get the kids excited, maybe downtown disney or something like that?

I have the option of the 4 day pass or the 5 day pass, we were thinking of maybe taking wednesday off to just hang around the fort, or should we go for broke and do the parks all 5 days?

We've done a couple of things in years past. We always end up getting there early. Coming from MN, we plan an extra travel day in case it snows. So far it's been almost straight hrough with no problems.

When you show up early that morning of check in, they park you in the overflow and in the past we've gone to the parks, or just checked out the Fort. If this is your first time, I'd suggest checking out the Fort. Go to the settlement and Meadows on the bus and walk around. Get the activity schedules for your week and see if there is anything the kids can do while you are waiting, or setting up camp later. If they are little there are always the pony rides. Here's a hint, if the child is over the height limit, try it with no shoes on. We had a great CM suggest that and it made a little girl VERY happy.

This year we are going to be there for seven days, but only planning to spend three days in the parks. We want to just hang out at the fort the rest of the time. I am REALLY looking forward to it. 32 days!

Official check in is 1pm - as in that's what they tell you the soonest is that your site will be ready. However if you're arriving at a time when it's not too busy, you might luck out and get your site assigned sooner.

If you get there earlier in the day, you can still check in, but they'll park you in overflow until your site is ready. Not sure about this year, but last year (09) they gave us a number to call to see if our site was ready.

Once you're checked in, you can go do whatever you like - check out the Fort, head to the parks, etc.

Re: #days on you tix
Generally once you get past the first few the cost to add on days drops significantly. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but it might not be a lot of extra $ to add a day.

Have a great trip!

Two weeks ago we checked in a little after 8am and went directly to our site.

I'd go for the 5 day pass -- it costs very little more and may give you more flexibility in the parks.

we were able to check in at 10am on monday. I justed took the dog for a walk around Spanish moss and there are alot of empty sites. Steve
