The Limo Story:
Part of our Fairy Tale Wedding Package included a limo for four hours. Since we didn't really need it for our wedding, I arranged for the limo to pick us up at the airport, wait for us at the WL while we checked in, then take us to the Richard Petty Driving Experience. The RPDE was a surprise for my husband, as a wedding gift, so he didn't know about this part.
When we arrived at MCO the limo should have already been there but it wasn't. I waited about 15 minutes then I called the number my wedding coordinator had given me just in case. It was Mears Transportation, who apparently does all the limos for DFTW. After looking for a few minutes, the lady at Mears told me she didn't have us down for a pick-up. She asked me to hold while she checked with her manager. They couldn't find us either. So she called someone in Sales at home (on a Sunday morning!) And they said we were scheduled for a pick up, but it was dated the next day!
Oy! Help! What could I do? This RPDE was nonrefundable at that point and time was running out!
I explained it to the Mears lady while Chuck went to get our baggage. She said no problem she'd get us a limo but it wouldn't be for another 45 minutes. I said OK, because that would still work.
So we sat down to wait.
Not ten minutes lady a lady limo driver comes running in with a sign with our names on it! I was amazed!
She whisked us out of that airport and over the WL. Not only was she good, she was darn funny! I asked her on the sly if they told her not to say anything about the RPDE. She said 'Yes they did" out of the corner of her mouth. Damn, she was good!
She took us to the WL and we checked in. She said if we wanted to drive around she'd wait for us. That part took longer then I anticipated but we were starving so we ran down to Roaring Forks to grab a bagel. Then we went back out to the limo. She drove us down past the Poly, then...oh, gosh, "here's the Richard Petty track. Maybe you guys want to go look around." (I told you she was good!)
So we did. Then I gave Chuck the envelope that had all his papers in it. (More on RPDE in my "Everything Else Trip Report".)
I wish I had thought to get the name of the Mears lady and also of the limo driver. They were both SUPER! They really saved the day and I appreciate their efforts so much. I was very impressed with their professionalism and upbeat attitudes. Way to go Mears!
WDW Transportation:
You know, just when you think you've got the whole Disney World Transportation thing figured out, they go and change it.
On our last trip there in September it seemed like no matter where you wanted to go, you had to go to the TTC. It took us a few days but after a while we got it. (We are not accustomed to public transportation. Where we live if you want to go somewhere, you get in a car and drive yourself. We have no trains or buses near us.)
But now everything is different. So it took us a few more days to get the new rhythm down, but after a couple of days, we got it.
Most of the time the buses arrived within a few minutes. Only once when we were leaving Epcot did we have to wait a really really long time.
The boats seemed to miraculously appear every time we walked to the marina.
My only complaint about the monorail is that I didn't get to ride it enough.
Overall I think Disney does a splendid job of getting people around. Even for our character breakfasts and tours we were still able to take an early morning bus from the WL.
So kudos to Disney Transportation! Thanks for the ride! (That's what I tell every bus driver or boat captain as I get off.)
Magical Express:
We never got our ME package at home. It would have been a problem if I didn't have other plans.
We did however get a letter from ME under our door on Thursday. It had our departure date at Friday but we were leaving on Saturday.
I went to the Front Desk and they changed it. Not a problem. She said it happens all the time.
On Saturday we reported in, checked our luggage and also got our boarding passes (What an excellent idea! That makes it so much easier at the airport!) Then we went back in to take few last minute pictures.
Our ME bus came right on time. It was a nice clean I think brand new bus. We left after only a few minutes, went from the WL to the Poly then to the GF and then off to the airport.
When we arrived in NY, so did our luggage. It went very smoothly. I would not hesitate to use ME again.
Thank you Disney for making that part of our trip a breeze!
