We just returned form a weeks vacation on the Big Island.

We stayed at the Kona Caost 11 resort (Shell Vacation Club), via RCI.

The resort was ideally situated for us, a little south of the town but not too far away to be inconvenient.

The condo was a good size, nicely furnished and clean. Two small things that some people might not be happy with, the tv's were not the newer flat panel type (but who wants to to watch tv when you are in Hawaii?), and there wasn't a whirlpool tub.

The staff at the resort were friendly and helpful.

We didn't at the restaurant, it didn't serve the type of food we wanted. it was a restaaurant/pool bar, serving burgers/hot dogs etc.

The resort is close to a small shopping mall (strip mall)that had other restaurants and a grocery store. It was close enough to walk to, less than five minutes from our condo.

I would definitely recommend the resort and we will be happy to stay there again.

As for the Big Island, it is beautiful, so much to do there, and we are planning to go back in September to try and see more of it.

We snorkled in beautifully clear water, we snorkled at night with Manta Rays, we took a tour to stargaze at the summit of Mauna Kea, toured Volcano park amongst other things.

Love hearing good stuff about RCI trades. I would also love to see some pictures.:goodvibes

I am happy to see a few RCI trade reports here and there. The ones that I have read have been positive too.

Would love to see pictures.

Keep them coming. It's a great help for the occasional trade.

For those seeking additional reviews and photos -- I suggest a visit to the Timeshare User's Group at: tug2.com. Access to their database of reviews does require a membership -- but it is well worth the small fee ($15) if you are researching an exchange.

OP: Thanks for posting your trip report!

I have belonged to TUG more or less since owning DVC (10 years) and just recently started to participate in the forums but have always browsed the ratings/reviews sections.

My sil and I (she is also a DVC member) recently looked at a number of places (at last 10) for a possible trade in the future. Many reviews were old and I must say I am guilty of not writing my great review of the Royal Sands when I got back from my trade last summer. I had also done my research of the Royal Sands at TUG (these are up to date) even though it was probably not necessary with this resort. I have personally heard many great stories and have read many great reviews also here and on at least two other places.

It is a great site and worth it especially for anyone owning more than one timeshare. (We only own one :) )

We also stayed at that resort about 5 years ago and really liked it. DH's boss owned there and gave us a week for free. :yay:

but pictures here are free! :goodvibes
In this case you get what you pay for or rather, don't get what you don't pay for. TUG is definitely worth it even investigating a single trip. Note that KCR is a fairly easy trade in through RCI or some of the smaller independent exchange companies.
