Okay let me start by saying that I love the at sea days! Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing far away ports and experiencing a bit of other cultures- but if I had to choose it would be a toss up between sea days and port days, with sea days a bit in the lead I think.
Perhaps because I am a rather hyperkinetic type personality it seems to me that the days at sea are what really relax me. I love having NO plans, no schedules, no deadlines or decisions to make other then my dining pleasures! I like getting off the boat but find that there is always a little nidge in the back of my mind about making it back to the boat on time! Is nidge a word?
This was the day of the BIG DIS MEET in the Walt Disney Suite! We were really looking forward to this! My sis and I had talked jokingly about hanging outside this stateroom just to catch a glimpse inside! To have actually been invited in was a thrill!
There were so many of us there! It was great to put names to all the friendly faces that we had been sharing our excitement with over the past few weeks in the chat forum. Although I must confess to actually remembering few of the names! I found it confusing to have screen names in my head and then try to remember real world names! A few people stand out in my mind. Of course, meeting the infamous Rae was fun! She even admitted to having over dosed on shrimp at the sail away party. I think she said something along the lines that she didn'r care if she ate another shrimp while onboard! I don't think she meant it though! Perhaps she was just trying to lull us all into a false sense of security so there would be more for her on the next seafood buffet line. Yup- I'm sure thats it! She was as warm and friendly as I expected her to be. Kind and sweet spirited. And as they say- the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Her Mom was also gracious and aglow. It was a pleasure to meet them both and I hope we are able to maintain some sort of friendship through the wonders of cyber space.
Got the news that mini mac (forget his real name!) was doing fine. They had stopped and gotten medication for the DS and he was now enjoying his cruise too!I know his parents were relieved.
Travis and Jason and the Mom(three circles) were sunny personalities as well. You could see they were loving thier cruise. We saw them a number of times after the meet at various club happenings. They were always right in the middle of all the fun! Living life to it's fullest were they!
Northern Mouse and hubby entertained us with some amusing stories! These are people I would like to get to know better. However, I will not be moving up to thier neck of the woods anytime soon- waaaay to much snow up there for my liking!Perhaps I should have started with Matt and Corrina and dear Francesca since they were our hosts. They were humble and warm people. I didn't know what to expect from people fortunate enough to be staying in such luxurious accomadations but they made us all feel so welcome. Even allowed us to snoop around and check out the whole suite. You could tell they were enjoying sharing this wonderful space. Francesca was a sweetie although she avoided the crowds for the most part. We stayed for quite a while- I hope we didn't burden them this way!
Peachy K was a sweetheart- at least I think that was her screen name- Chelsea's Mom- you know who you are! She was so funny! It was great to share the sail away view with her on Saturday too! Chelsea was thrilled at just the site of the floating bouys in port so you know she had a great time once we set sail! Loved that accent too!
Janet and Dave of Passporter fame were such nice and down to earth people. Not the "celebrity" type at all! I hope they know how much I appreciated thier book- it was a great accessory to our trip- I never felt adrift or confused. Not once. And more then once I would say to myself- I know all about this from the Passporter! The favorite thing I learned of from thier book was that secret verandah off deck seven! It was close to our room- just up the stairs. It was almost always deserted and I would often just pop out there for a moment of peace and quiet or to enjoy the view. Thanks for the tips ! Now where's your trip report guys?? lol
All in all it was a lovely day meeting some fine people. If I have not mentioned you here it is simply because I was a little overwhelmed with new names and faces!
After the dis meet we went to shutters to check out last nights photos-met up with a few of the dis folks there too- a few still carrying thier wine glasses even!
Up top for a snack of chicken tenders and fries to rival MacDonalds finest! How do they get those chicken tenders so crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside? This is a recipe I want!
Then it was back for a nap. Ahhhh the decadence of a midday nap! I think that countries with siesta times have the right idea. What a luxury to rest your mind and body for a bit. I awoke refreshed and ready for action!
Parrots Cay was where the action was happening that night! I enjoyed this restaurant. The decor and the chirping bird sounds were nice. Made me feel at home since I have pet birds! This was our semi formal night, although we dressed formally. We so seldom dress up and we wanted to enjoy each opputrtunity to put on the ritz as they say! Girls in gowns and son in a great suit- we looked pretty dang stunning if I do say so myself. We had a few photo ops with the characters and a few more formal photos taken and then it was all about the food! My children once again were on best behavior and ordered way too much food. Three appetizors and soup and salad. Was this the night we had escargot? Oh my they were yummy! Two out of three children agreed, with the last simply refusing to eat snails! I think I heard her mention a comparison to slugs-ewww. But they certainly tasted a lot better then slugs look! Sylvester and Joel were attentive and effecient, dealing with the kids with humor and good spirits! We got treated to TWO magic tricks from Sylvester since DS had missed the one the night before! How did he do that anyways. I admit to not liking magic a whole lot- it perturbs me that they know something I don't and can't figure out! But I took it with a smile and enjoyed the amazed look on the faces of my kids!
After dinner it was time to cruise the night spots. Not a lot happening at the Promenade. There never seemed to be a lot happening here- maybe I missed something but this seemed like wasted space to me. One night DD13 and I stopped there for a bit and the male singer was actually watching the hockey game on the TV screens behind us while he sang. Takes some talent I suppose to watch Tv and play and sing all at the same time!
Tomorrow is a day at Saint Martin- sure to be a long one so it was an early to bed night. If going to bed at 1 AM can be considered an early night!
