Trip Report 7/20-7/25 Daytona/Universal
Cast-Mom and 17 year old son
7/20-Off to the Toledo airport at about 3:30am for our 5:50
flight aboard ATA-We boarded the plane but there was no one to
fuel the plane so we had to wait. We were about 25 minutes late
so we were late getting to our next flight. The Toledo passengers
were the last ones to board our flight to Orlando. After arriving
at MCO, my son asked me if I had his cell phone but I didnt. So
while I waited for luggage he went to lost and found and then to
ATA baggage office.Lucky for him that ATA workers found his phone in his seat on the plane and would bring it to him at baggage.Iam still waiting for bags and waiting and waiting....well our bags never came through the carousel. The luggage for the TOL passengers never got on the flight so we were without our
luggage. The baggage personnel took our name, phone number and address of where we will be staying and said they would get our luggage to us at their expense(duh). We are driving to Daytona so we head to the rental car counter.I rented from National(standard size-$137). Short wait at the counter and only one person was working. We went to the Emerald Aisle to get our car,it was kind of neat deciding which one to take.First one tried was an Impala but the under dash ash tray fell completely on the floor when my son opened it,second tried was a Stratus but it smelled like vomit on the inside so finally we settled on a Gran Prix.We are finally headed toward Daytona. I decided to take 528 to I95 instead of I4 and it was a nice drive. We arrived at our hotel which was the Hampton Inn Oceanfront at Dayton Beach Shores at about noon. When I gave my name at the desk the clerk said she just received a call about our bags-ATA had found one in Phoenix! We were able to check in early to our oceanfront room.It was great-clean,well-kept,and the balcony had a lovely view.Too bad we had no swimwear because the pool and ocean looked so inviting. Our room had a frig and microwave so we decided to go get some snacks and eat since we hadnt so far this day. We found Shells to eat at since this is where my son wanted to eat.He had eaten there before and gotten Gator Bites but they were no longer on the menu. Our food was very good.On the way back to the hotel we stopped at WinnDixie and got snacks. Got back but no word on luggage so we went and rested in the room.At about 4:30 I called ATA baggage and was took that they had found 2 bags and were going to wait on a 7:30pm flight to see if the 3rd was on it but if it wasnt they would send the 2 to us. Well,at 9:30 I tried to call baggage again but no answer.I tried to relax on the balcony but at this point relaxation was not going to happen.I called down to the front desk and told them that as soon as our luggage got there to call our room.I slept off and on and at 4:30am the desk called and all 3 of our bags were there.Yippee! I was now able to sleep and we retrieved our bags later. We got up and enjoyed the free breakfast at the Hampton, very good.
