May 21 to 26 I was there with DW, DD17, DD17's friend also 17, DS15, DS11, DD8 and DD6 who is special needs. We had a 2BR which was large enough because the weather was perfect, we didn't spend much time in the condo and we used the balcony a lot.
The weather was great. Hot enough to swim (and I'm a native Floridian who won't swim unless it's hot) and cool enough to bike. A perfect temp for HH -- the year before at the same time was too cool for me. The resort was beautiful and well-run as usual. CM's were friendly.
There were a few minor issues in the condo, but we had too many issues of our own to think about the condo.
Saw B'lou and Shadow a couple of times. Had a good talk with him about his background as I live in a bluegrass hotbed where a friend of his had lived. I didn't hear him play, though.
Our daughter wasn't having the grand mal seizures this trip (just her myoclonic seizures) and she loved the whole thing, but got overtired by the end so we had to keep her out of the sun the last couple of days.
The bikes were in POOR condition mostly due to an inept CM -- an elderly man who shouldn't have been working in that position. Fortunately, he wasn't there after our first day.
My DD17 and her friend had a great time and her friend was wonderful.
The highlight for me was renting an 18 foot catamaran on the beach and taking the family out. (It's a great boat if you are experienced but easy to tip. A similar boat, the old SolCat was clocked at 27mph years ago, but the Sol Cat has daggerboards and this one doesn't -- it has the same asymetric hull used on the Hobie Cats for sailing off the beach.) The attendant asked me several times if I knew what I was doing -- he was quite skeptical because the wind was steady and building all day. It was probably 10 to 15 when we started and 20 to 25 when we finished. My kids had no idea how fun a sailboat could be. They thought it would be a boring leisurely sail, but those boats in a stiff wind are anything but boring. We exchanged passengers a couple of times. I took it about a mile out and we saw dolphin behind a shrimp boat. The waves were slapping the trampoline so my DD17 and her friend got cold, but otherwise it was fantastic for all.
The bad thing was that DW and I had some, shall we say, major disagreements, which put a damper on the whole week
. We're working on those. Here's to next May at HH:
