Day 2 - DLRP - Wednesday July 26th 2006
Breakfast was at 8.30am and then it was shower time and off to the parks - Disney Studios first, as is the norm. on the second day of our visits to DLRP. We stopped in the big shop in Production Courtyard first to get Denise a replacement watch for the one she lost in the move. We were met with the site of the huge Cars display which I liked and proceeded to take numerous photos of.
One thing that we noticed was how much Tower of Terror has grown since our last visit in December. We trekked across the park and made our way into the arena for Moteurs Action! There was a wasp buzzing around us which angered Denise as she hates them - a guy behind us was attracting it with his apple which he seemed to find amusing so we shuffled along the bench to escape! The show has changed slightly and there is now less audience interaction and more pro stunts which is a vast improvement.
Next was Cinemagique and for the first time we spotted the guy who was going to become part of the show - we were very pleased with ourselves because of this! I never get bored of this show, simply awesome. After we ran across to Animagique just in time to get in. I was very tired as I hadn't slept amazingly well an it was hot, very very hot - that was the 40 degrees C day! Anyway - I kept dozing off - not for long though, nodding off and then waking myself up as my head dropped forward - the show seemed to be very sleep inducing that day!
It was about midday by now and we were starving so went to Backlot Express - you know, the one with all the props hanging from the ceiling, including a shark and a speeder bike from Return of the Jedi. Cheese and mushroom toastie type things - yum! After lunch we went to my favourite attraction in the Studios - Backlot Tram Tour. However, the queue was spilling outside the queuing area and this heat we couldn't face a long wait so we went back to the park and had our very first go on Buzz Lightyear: Lazer Blast - wow, what a fantastic ride! I scored 123,000 and Denise scored 45,900 - we bought the photo and it had the wrong scores on it - damn, made me look worse than I was! Anyway, fantastic addition to the park and already one of our favourite rides.
We then walked to Fronierland and into the Chaparral Theatre for Tarzan. I'd heard before going that it was being replaced next year and as it wouldn't be showing in October when we return this would be our last opportunity see it - however, since returning I've been told there are no current plans to replace it - if that's true then double woo hoo - easily my favourite show and we good seats near the front, though a little to the side so I had a pillar in my way for the 'jumping off the rocks' part. By this time the heat was really getting to us and we both had headaches - my head hadn't been too bad and my stomach seemed to be on the mend. It was about 5pm and we went back to the hotel for a siesta and a shower - much needed!
Dinner was in the Plaza Gardens and whilst waiting to get in Dad turned up and said he had booked Blue Lagoon for al 6 of us for tomorrow (Thursday night) if we wanted to go, and we said yes, sounds great. Inside Plaza Gardens the buffet wasn't quite as nice as the previous night but still pretty good though it was like a rugby scrum a the buffet bars! My stomach was feeling that much better that my desert was melon and chocolate mouse! Story time - while getting food Denise had an omelette on her plate and a woman came up to her and said 'is that egg?' - Denise sad yes and the woman said 'can you try it to see if it is?' - shocked, Denise said 'no, I'm sure it is egg' - how rude, I'm surprised Denise didn't dump it over her head - it was hard enough getting the plate back to the table in one piece without walking tasting sessions!
We met Dad et al near the Buzz ride and then we all went on POTC - it was great being on there with the whole family and unbelievably it was only our second POTC ride of the holiday! Having family with you is also a good opportunity to get photos of us taken so I asked Dad. He tried and tried but couldn't seem to get it to work - when I showed him again which button to press the flash went off and we finally got a photo of the two of us. It was only later when looking back at the photos that I found some film footage - Dad had been filming instead of taking photos!
After the POTC ride we visited the Coffre du Capitaine and I tried on a pirate hat and wig - very fetching, don't you think?
We had planned to watch Fantillusion but the winds were getting quite violent and lighning was streaking across the sky. it was actually quite spooky waking through Adventure Isle and a scarcely lit Adventureland as the storm started to whip up speed! On our way back to the hotel there was thunder and massive forked lightning so Maria and Izzy went to their room while Denise, Dad, Sam and I had drinks on the decking outside the Cheyenne. It was great fun sitting under cover while the sky lit up with lightning, thunder cracked and the heavens opened with a downpour. Dad and Sam left first and we giggled as they ran through the rain. Then it was our turn and even though our block was only 20 yards from the Red Garter Saloon we got quite wet! Still, it was great fun and we were soon in bed and in the land of nod.
