Day 1 - DLRP - Tuesday July 25th 2006

We got up at 7.45am and had the breakfast we had brought with us (bowls and all) - I have to start the morning with my bowl of Bran Flakes - I take a box to DLRP every time! So, we checked out and made our way to Ashford International where we parked up and were through the passport control within minutes. At about 10am we boarded the Eurostar and after an uneventful journey we arrived at the greatest place on earth - Disneyland Resort Paris.

We got off the train with our luggage (no Disney Express as we didn't book travel and accommodation together) and made our way out of the station, to be hit with a wave of heat - lovely! My stomach wasn't feeling too bad and I was battling through the headaches - hell, I was in DLRP, nothing was going to stop me having a great time. We got on the coach to our beloved Cheyenne and thanks to my speedy diagonal walk across the quad (why do people stick to the pathways?) I was second in line and we were checked in within just a few minutes. This time we were in Wyatt Earp, the second time we've stayed there. It's so close to the main buildings so great for breakfast and the bar.

When we got in the room we noticed a roll of chocolate coins and a typed, but hand signed, note welcoming us and saying they were at our disposal! Not sure if this a new thing or it's because we are repeat visitors - either way, nice touch!

I should point out that Dad, Maria, Sam and Izzy had arrived in DLRP the day before, they were staying down the way in the Doc Holiday block.

We sorted stuff out in the room and then we were on our way - yee haa! We walked along the Rio Grande River and saw some massive fish - really massive! We joked that they might eat the ducks rather than the other way round!

Once you go round the corner and across the bridge you can see Disney Village across Lake Disney which is an amazing feeling. We actually stopped in Disney Village for lunch as we were really hungry. We went to American Style Sandwiches and as my stomach wasn't 100% I had a veggie sandwich - avocado, lettuce and cheese - Denise had a ham and cheese panini - both were gorgeous, great start to the holiday. I then bought a baseball cap to protect my head from the sun, and then it was off to the Disneyland Park.

Is there anything better than putting your ticket in the machine for the first time at the start of the trip and walking into the park? Not for us, I turned to Denise and said 'we are home'! Our first port of call was Pirates of the Caribbean so off we set across the park to the greatest attraction ever! We ended up queuing for almost an hour which is as long as we've ever queued for anything, but it's POTC so we didn't mind. I noticed a few changes on the ride - a few extra torches, a few more shadow animations etc... Wow - it just gets better every single time! While on the ride I couldn't help myself and as we entered the Port Royal area I commented 'so that's where the rum's gone'!!!

We then entered Le Coffre du Capitaine where I saw lots of POTC merchandise - to be honest I didn't like most of it - it was very gothic looking with more attention to the skull and crossbones than to the spirit of the ride. The great Mickey POTC t-shirt I'd seen at dlrp.fr before we went was only available in kids sizes - no fair. I still managed to buy a few treats - Mickey/Donald/Goofy POTC globe and a Mickey pirate in a bottle, a POTC Mickey soft toy and a Stitch POTC soft toy - any more? Yep - a POTC pen set, a POTC medallion and two bags of chocs - not so bad for someone who didn't like what was on offer! It was after 2pm so we couldn't have it delivered to the hotel that same night so we left it with them to be delivered the next night. I was a bit worried though as the lady who served us left our globe on the side saying she'd get a box later.

After that most wonderful POTC experience (I like the ride, can you tell?) we met up with Dad and the family in Frontierland and then left them eating ice cream while we rode my second favourite ride in the park - Phantom Manor. It's darker in places than it was - spooky! Like POTC, PM never ever gets boring - such an amazing attraction. We then decided to go back to the hotel to get showered and changed for the evening, but not before snapping the massive POTC: DMC poster on the outside of the cinema in Disney Village.

It was so nice to get all freshened up and soon we were off to the park again, just in time to climb the stairs of the Main St USA station and watch the parade from a vantage point that we never have before. The sun was beating down and it was boiling but hearing, and singing, Dancin' made us forget that - the world's greatest ever song? You betcha! The day was awesome so far and it only got better when we entered the Disneyland Hotel - wow, what a place! Decorated with Disney marionettes, Disney posters and some very plush decor. We made our way to the Fantasia Bar, passing through a hotel shop almost as big as Emporium! We had ourselves some lovely alcohol free cocktails and relaxed - this is the life! I noticed a picture of Walt on the wall, it was crooked but I dare not touch it!

We got some complimentary treats with our drinks - nachos, soft cheese and olives - I could have gotten used to that! The cocktails weren't that expensive and the staff were really friendly so we got them to take a photo of us.

At 8.30pm we walked into Inventions and were greeted with a buffet out of a Roman banquet wowser! I was very good with what I chose so as not to aggrevate my stomach but still managed to load my plate up with some great food - melon, turkey, mouse terraine for starters and for main course I had the most luscious asparagus spears, some garlic green beans, fish shapes and cheesey potatoes and more - it was amazing! Denise had a tiny choc mouse for desert and I had more melon. It was amazing! We'd almost forgotten another major selling point of Inventions when in trotted the mice from Cinderella, followed by Mickey Mouse and Pluto - photos a plenty followed! I was stupidly happy to get photos with Mickey and Pluto!

After dinner we had a walk to POTC, with Fantasyland closed and people waiting for the parade we figured it would be a great time to ride POTC. However, when we got there it was closed - closed I tell you! Yes, they now close POTC at 10pm as well as Fantasyland - damn cheeky, fancy not telling me? By this time we were shattered and decided that Fantillusion and Wishes could wait for another day so we made our way back to the Cheyenne and had a drink on the terrace of the Red Garter Saloon with Dad, Sam and Izzy - what a great way to finish an amazing first day. After a drink it was off to bed, exhausted but happy.

Next - Day 2 DLRP - Wednesday July 26th 2006...

Great report! I'm sooo looking forward to the Cheyenne now.
