I'm coming in a little late on this, but I'm going to try and remember this day as vividly as I can. I want to record it down and have it memorized for quite awhile. Why? Because it was a very good day at DL and DCA, one that I hope I can have more often!
The party consisted of me, my mom, and sister Christine. The past couple of times was just Christine and I, yet, we missed out on POTC. She hadn't been on it since July 15! Very deprived of it, that was our first stop once we arrived in the mid-afternoon. The weather was cool and the crowds were minimal, a nice surprise for a Saturday. We headed straight for NOS to jump on POTC.
Next, it was off to HM, a 20 minute wait that went very fast. I wanted to make sure we'd do that ride, knowing fully well that Sept. 11 was when it would close down for the holiday changes.
After that, we headed to Indiana Jones, noticed it was a 30 minute wait, and decided to ride it. Mom waited outside. I got the front seat behind the steering wheel and I totally got into it by pretending to drive like a lunatic. Oh, it's so much more fun! When we got back to the loading zone, the ride operator said, "Nice driving, but next time, try to stay on the road!"
We went over to Fantasyland next to check out the line for Peter Pan. Long as usual and we avoided it. It was then I used that opportunity to finish my last 50th roll of film once and for all. I had three pictures left and used them on the golden vehicles outside the rides, such as the golden pirate ship, the golden motorcar (for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride) and the golden carousel horse next to Dumbo. Mom and I talked to a nice CM named Jeffery who explained about the fading of the 50 theme around the park. I noticed the Golden Dumbo was gone as well as the 50 replacement near Timothy when the stagecoach never returned from Big Thunder Ranch.
From there, we took a walk over to DCA to check out Soarin' Over California, something none of us had done in ages. There was NO line outside; we just walked right in. It was beautiful. We got seated in the back middle row, but I didn't mind. I love that ride no matter what.
Later, we had to take the other path near GC due to the Block Party going on near the entrance to Condor Flats. It was around 5:30 when we neared the theater that plays "Golden Dreams." Christine was the only one who hadn't seen it and the next show was starting at 6. We hung around the entrance, or I decided to stand out in the street and watch the rest of the Block Party. I stood in the back of the "A Bug's Life" float and took some pictures. I tried to high-five Flick when he got close, but three CM's blocked my way! They were kneeling, but I couldn't get close to him, or he wouldn't go near them! People off to the side got more attention from him instead. Bummer.
Finally, the float started to leave and I went to meet up with Mom and Christine at the front of the line into the theater. We got a seat two rows back. It's a great show incase no one has seen it, but you may get teary-eyed!
Next, I started to feel hungry and I remember someone mentioning a Cove Bar on this forum. Something about Lobster Nachos and I was so tempted to try them! We went to California Screamin' first to check out the line, seeing it had a 30 minute wait. Christine and I got a Fast Pass between 7:10 and 8:10. Then, it was off to Ariel's Grotto to find this Cove Bar.
The Lobster Nachos were delicious, but have a spicy kick to them. However, we waited a VERY long time to get our food. It was about 25 minutes long and then the girl told us she forgot to put our order in, making us wait even longer! We had our drinks, probably one of the BEST Cokes I've ever had, but it was making me cold and I didn't have a coat. Mom went on and on and ON about borrowing her coat and I wouldn't take it from her. I said I was fine! I lied, she could see goosebumps on my arms.
After eating, we had time to use the restroom before it was 8 p.m. Our Fast Pass for California Screamin' would soon be up at 8:10. The lights in the ladies restroom downstairs of Ariel's Grotto were not working, so we were told we had to use the men's room instead. I went to go in there, but quickly told to leave because a guy was currently in there! He was in the stall, but it would have been best to wait outside!
We got to California Screamin' in time and WOW, I love the Fast Pass line for this ride! We walked right in, and without waiting at all, went straight to the boarding zone! It was incredibly awesome! I'll have to remember that from now on. Mom watched us at the count down zone and then went to see our picture. My hair blew in my face and I looked ridiculous while Christine always has a hilarious look to her.
After that, it was off to DL again to stake out a spot in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle for "Remember, Dreams Come True." I wanted to sit through it again and enjoy it as much as possible before it leaves for good. I really love that show and wonder how they can top it after the 50th theme ends.
Next, it was a cattle drive into Frontierland to reach NOS to see if we could get on POTC once more. There was no line and we were on it in no time. I really love slow days.
After that, Christine decided to use her $50 coupon (from our passport renewal) in Pieces of Eight to buy a new POTC hoodie in a size small and give Mom her medium one. It came to $44, so she needed to find one more thing worth about $6 in price. They found a nice little keychain of the talking skull before the first drop on the ride. I have the same exact thing in the form of a necklace. The skull has a pirate hat and red ruby eye. I got it from Pieces of Eight on Halloween night, 2004 and have received many compliments. Jack Sparrow even tried to steal it on one occasion. The keychain now dangles from our rear-view mirrow in our car.
I watched the end of Fantasmic! as I waited for them to come out of the store. It was then off to ride HM again. Had to ride it. I'm good at guessing which elevator door will open (it'll often be the one without the sound of thunder coming through it) and then I know which side the doors will open in the octogon-shaped room. When the door opened downstairs, I took off in a crazy run; I'm sure the people behind me thought I was some lunatic. Well, only when I'm having fun, I act weird! We all rode a Doom Buggy by ourselves and I loved every minute of it. God, I'm going to miss that ride!
Next, it was reeeeeally late, well after 11 p.m., but I didn't have work till 11 a.m. and I wanted to keep playing! We almost got on board the DLRR at the NOS station, but we arrived just as it was leaving! The CM said the next one wouldn't get there for another 20 minutes! It was so stupid, there was plenty of room and we just got there. They could have let us on!
Instead, we walked through Frontierland, saw NO line for BTMRR, but with Mom there, we skipped it. Drat. Then, we reached the back way to Fantasyland, saw Peter Pan was semi-crowded and jumped in line! Yes, we wanted to ride it, and we got in the line at nearly 11:30 p.m.!
Next, we ran over to Mr. Toad's since we hadn't done it in MONTHS! Rode by ourselves and had a jolly good time.
Next, we ran over to Alice in Wonderland and then ran the zig-zag of the crowdless line up to the front! Again, it was beautiful! All three of us were acting like children. Christine, the brat, took the front seat of the catepillar, making Mom and I sit in the back. She's our Alice of the family with her blonde hair. I was like, "Whatever!"
FINALLY, DL was closed for the night, yet it was a determination to find a ring I had been searching for all over the park. I hadn't mentioned it, but I had been looking for this pretty ring during many visits. It's got a mouse ear logo in the center set in Peridot stones and then the sides have two Sapphire stones and finally, a third set of more but very small Peridot stones next to the Sapphire ones. Sterling Silver, $22, very beautiful. I looked all over and finally found it at the Disney Emporium. I bought it right away. I was so thrilled to have found it.
And then, it was off to go home. The end of a very good day at DL and DCA. Like I said, these are days I hope I can have more often!
