I may have to do this trip report in parts as I typed up a big long
post only to have my ISP disconnect me!
After reading lots of negative things on the boards about the RPR,
I was quite apprehensive about our stay there. We couldn't get
ressies for HRH where we have stayed in the past so we figured
we'd take a chance on RPR. I originally planned to post a more
positive report, the hotel is lovely with beautiful theming, we had
no problems at check-in (even though we got Brian at the front
desk, who had gotten many negative posts on the board.)
Housekeeping was fine and there are many nice touches in the
ample size (albeit smaller that HRH or PBH) rooms.
Then all my positive input changed on the night of 8/1-8/2 when
the fire alarms were triggered at 1:00 a.m. until 2:20 p.m. This
has been noted in a couple of other trip reports but I cannot tell
you how disconcerting the whole experience was and I for one do
not feel that the whole situation was well handled by RPR
management. Suffice to say that when the alarms once again
started to ring at 6:50 a.m., I decided that we were out of there.
We might consider staying at RPR somewhere down the road,
but I'll be giving them a good 6-8 months to get the bugs worked
out.
We transferred to HRH following good service from Waleska at
RPR's front desk, who got us a room at an acceptable rate, and
no thanks to snotty Roberto, who refused to get us a confirmation
number for our HRH reservation and then while we were in
earshot, said to the HRH employee on the other end of the phone
"Boy, this is shaping up to be a real winner of a day." My
husband lost it at this point saying, "Yeah, well my day started
at 1:00 a.m. buddy, how about yours?" No raves for Roberto.
Employees at HRH and at PBH where we ate one evening said
that stuff like that has been going on at RPR since day one and
they wouldn't expect everything to be just right for the first year!
Maybe there's some real competition between the employees of
the UO hotels.
I'll end this section here but I'll have more to post when I get the
chance.
Edit: Sorry this message posted twice. I've tried to delete this
one that's not marked as Part 1, but for some reason it's not
letting me.
