My sister and I had Friday off and she made plans to do her usual weekend get-together with friends in Studio City. We went and got Mom from work at around 4 p.m. and headed straight up to DL. I had just gotten my new Safari Club Card to dine at the Rainforest Café to get all sorts of discounts. They also sent me a $10 Gift Certificate good until 6/15/06. I used it right away.
When we first arrived, my sister suggested we hit Haunted Mansion first since it was around 6 p.m., or when everyone planned on going to dinner. DL wasn't too bad getting through to New Orleans Square and we were at the entrance to the ride in no time. I really missed it. They shut it down back in late January to fix it up a bit. I got photos outside the main gate and then we went inside. We rode down the elevator with a weirdo of a Cast Member. Ryan was his name and he sure acted strange. I said "Hi, Ryan!" and he just stared blankly. Picture Lurch from "The Addams Family" and that was him! It's so cool how the CM's really get into character for each attraction!
Should note that I hardly noticed anything new on the ride except that some areas seemed a lot darker, or they dimmed the lights to make it more creepier inside. One thing I did see different was in the cemetery scene. They put in far more pine trees! The "Grim Grinning Ghosts" singing busts were surrounded in nothing but little pine trees!
After the ride, we jumped onto the NOS Disneyland Railroad, departed at Tomorrowland, jumped on the Monorail and ended up in Downtown Disney right next to the Rainforest Café restaurant. Yeah, we know our way around quite well. As a new Safari Club Card Member, our waiting time was cut in half, but when three seats became available at the bar, we went over there and got seated right away! The food was delicious and would have been about $30, but with my discount and $10 Gift Certificate, the bill came to about $12! It was awesome. I held up the bill and said, "Can I frame this?"
After dinner, we entered DCA and jumped in line for Soarin' Over California. A 40 minute wait, not too bad. By the time we got out, it was 9:25 and the "Remember, Dreams Come True" fireworks were starting up over at DL. We made our way to the Timon parking lot and got on the 5 North to head for Studio City to drop off my sister.
I drove home with Mom nodding off in the passenger seat. I made good time, too. Got on the 101 Hollywood South at 11 p.m. and hit Escondido right at 12:40. That's really good! I was able to stop in at my work to check next week's schedule. Hours are cut again. Oh, great!
We hit DL again on Saturday to do more rides and stuff. I'll give a separate report on that!
