:sunny: DH & I are planning an extended vacation next June- and we're trying to cut down on our number of points used to pull a second trip a little later on - Can anyone recommend someplace outside property to eat up a weekend night or two? Or is it beneficial to stay inside and pay the discount rate? Any experienced input would be great! Thanks in advance

We often use the first weekend to do something off property and so we stay near the off site attraction. For example, last year, we visited Seas World and spent the first weekend in a Courtyard Resort near Sea World. We'd do the same if we planned to visit Universal - although for that, we'd probably stay at one of the Universal on site Resorts so that we could get FOTL access.

When our plane arrives late in the day/evening, we often stay near the airport and get an early start the next morning. Lots of discount lodging opportunities near the airport.

This year, I waited too long to reserve DVC and so we have to spend one night elsewhere. Since we are AP holders, I used the Best Rate Program and snagged a room at the CSR for just over $100. Looking forward to staying there - we've only seen it from the road so far, LOL.

Best wishes-

You can sometime get a really good AP rate at POP or All Stars, since we usually drive (and I allow an extra day in case of car trouble or road hazards), we usually arrive a night early for our essie and spend the first night at POP.
