We (me, DH and DD) just wrapped up a wonderful 5 day trip to the World. I am normally a lurker (thank you everyone for all the great information!), but I thought I would try to pass along a few observations.

- I grew up in FL, but the heat was intense. By our fourth day we skipped a morning in the parks to just float in the pool. It was glorious.

-We stayed at the Poly for the first time. We ordered the kids size of the Polynesian Twilight Feast for a room service dinner one evening and the portion was huge. I shared it with my DD and there was food left over. DD enjoyed the new splash pool area and I thought the sushi at Kona Island was superb.

-Loved, loved, LOVED the new Frozen ride. A part of me will always miss Maelstrom, but our whole family thought the ride was beautiful and well synced. We enjoyed it so much that we rode it a second time standby (posted wait time was 60 minutes, but we only waited 35).

-Animal Kingdom at night should not be missed. The park only seemed crowded around the Jungle Book area. We had our own safari ride. I have never seen the lions that active. The females were chasing each other and the male was roaring. The Tree of Life light show was breathtaking. Definitely try Tiffins. All the dishes I had were superb. The Jungle Book show wasn't as bad as I thought it would be from some descriptions.

-We had a PPO breakfast at BOG for 8:10 and pre-ordered. We arrived at the gates at 7:55, strolled and took pictures on the way to the restaurant and finished at 8:50. Rode the Mine Train one time and just beat the rope droppers to Peter Pan (so glad we had a chance to go through the standby line...the new room designs are superb).

-The next day we had a PPO breakfast at Garden Grill for 8:05. We finished our meal at 8:50 and were just ahead of the rope drop crowd to Soarin. I think we got lucky as they did not seem to open the gates that early that morning. I would highly recommend not rushing this character breakfast though. It was DD's favorite. The characters came by multiple times and my DH could not stop commenting on how good the sticky bun was.

-All of the Disney cast members I encountered were helpful and engaged except for one lone anomaly. The security checks were thorough and smooth.

-I tried Dining with an Animal Specialist at Sanaa while my DH stayed behind in the room while our DD was napping. This felt like the best deal at Disney. Only $49 and I got sooooo much food (bread service with nine sauces, three salads, main entree, three mini deserts and unlimited soda). Our specialist was super engaged and I learned tons of new facts about the animals at Disney. She also volunteered that the powers that be are now thinking ROL will not debut till the summer, but I would take it with a grain of salt as she does not work at AK.

-If you want to meet Joy and Sadness aim for the morning or late evening. Every time we checked during the middle of the day the wait was 1.5 hrs. We skipped it.

-We decided to not make dining reservations for our Epcot days. We were able to eat at both Rose & Crown (dinner) and Chefs de France (lunch). I also saw open spots online for Le Cellier and Via Napoli for lunch.

-I met up with a friend to have Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian. I had never been before so I cannot compare with the past, but I thought the amount of food/drinks we received for $35 was fair. Our waiter Kit really made the experience. If you are looking for a relaxing afternoon location this is it.

-Being able to make the 4th FP on our phone was a huge time saver. The headliners were gone but there still seemed to be a large variety of choices.

-Disney Springs is really shaping up. For new experiences we got a flight of coke products at the 3rd floor lounge area at the Coke store and tried some ice cream at Sprinkles. I'm excited to see it in a year or two when it is completely finished and there isn't so much backtracking around construction.

-On a random note, I saw a 20 minute wait at Stitch's Great Escape around 11am. I was flabbergasted.

-I did not see a single mosquito on property.

We had a wonderful trip and can't wait to start planning our next one!

Thanks so much for your observations, I've been on the fence about doing AK at night, but I'm leaning towards planning one night there now!!

We have a PPO at Garden Grill... our first time at this restaurant! Glad to hear such a great review :)

Thanks for the review & all the details! I love reading "just back" notes. Always so positive from those with the pixie dust still in their eyes :lovestruc

Thank you all! I really do have all kinds of pixie dust in my eyes right now. Things went wrong as they always do, but we just had so much fun regardless that I just want to gush.

Thank you for taking the time to post, sounds like an awesome trip! We have PPO BoG and GG, hoping we do as well as you did!

Thanks so much for sharing! Could I get a little more detail on your PPO character breakfast at Garden Grill? This used to be our favorite breakfast years ago when DS was little. We don't want to rush the meal but I would like to beat the rope drop crowds to Soarin. What time did you arrive? I was thinking about being in the line to enter the park for the PPO about 7:30. Did you ask for your check immediately upon ordering? Any other tips to try to be out of the restaurant before 9?

We arrived at the gates at 7:45, but they didnt let the breakfast groups in till 7:55. We seemed to be the only one going till Garden Grill as most turned to Akershus. Our ADR was for 8:05 and we were seated a little before that. We did not pay our check ahead of time as we did not think that we would have any chance to beat the rope drop crowd. The restaurant only seemed about half full and the food came out super fast. We didnt get seconds on anything even though we enjoyed the food. It seemed like the rope group crowd was let in a little later than usual and that was the only way we got in front. We could literally see the mass of people coming as we left the restaurant around 8:50ish. It was an awesome surprise as we had a fp and got to ride it twice! I prob would plan to beat the rope drop crowd though. It seemed that we got really lucky. Have a great time!!!

This is super helpful. I wish there was no tiering at Epcot. It makes it hard to do both FEA and Soarin plus Test Track with little wait. Even if we don't beat the crowds, hopefully we will have a short wait for Soarin with 3 screens. I was thinking about fast passing it but I really really want to ride FEA and don't see how I would be able without a long wait without a fast pass. I was thinking the rest of my crew can fast pass Test Track and then we can meet up after. I appreciate your insight. Your trip sounds like it was a lot of fun!

Awesome report. Thank you!
I am headed to the Polynesian in a couple of weeks and have lots of the same plans as you do. PPO at BOG and GG; afternoon tea and AK after dark:wizard:

Thanks again:flower3:

Thanks for posting your report! I also have alot of the same plans you did -- staying at the Poly, PPO ADR at Garden Grill and PPO ADR at BOG.

We went to Disney in August last year --- we usually go in October --- and it was very hot & humid as we expected. We're going next month and I have been hearing that it is very, very hot this year.

Thank you for all of your thoughtful comments!! We were there in June and I agree with your Animal Kingdom comments 100%!!! We LOVED Tiffins. It was the best meal of our 8 day trip!! We also enjoyed the Jungle Book Show! Didn't understand all of the negative comments I read about it before we went. Rides were almost walk ons at night, and yes, the tree of life was fabulous!! I was so glad we experienced Animal Kingdom at night!!

We are a family of 4 that was at the Poly same time as OP. We too had a wonderful trip. It was hot, hot, hot. Spent every afternoon up to our chins at the Oasis pool. We enjoyed the rides, not a fan of FastPass+, I like to plan our trips, but to me, it was too restrictive. Best surprises were that we were able to do standby for Test Track as a late thunderstorm closed the ride and we were in the right spot at the right time when it re-opened. We also scored a standby at Toy Story Mania with only a 20 minute wait! Got to ride Star Tours-twice! We really enjoyed the Star Wars fireworks at Hollywood Studios-our kids are teens. While in the pool we heard that Tiffins was a great place. There were some hiccups with mousekeeping and the monorails/buses and some service at a few places to eat. Not our most magical trip by far, but we are still a happy Disney family

The tiering does make it really tough at Epcot. If your family doesnt mind being split up the single rider line at Test Track was consistently 10 mins throughout the day. The wait for soarin seemed to be around 45-60 mins throughout the day with frozen being 60-75 mins. Hope your trip is awesome!

Your insights are very helpful. I don't think they mind splitting up at all. Thanks again!!

I am staying at the Polynesian in October and just curious - what is the twilight feast? Is it the same food that is served at Ohana? And did you order just one kid portion for all three of you? We don't have ADR for Ohana so I'm hoping this might be the way to at least experience the food! Thanks!
