DH had a ball taking photos during our trip! :goodvibes
Each night we "dumped" the memory cards to my laptop, then we erased the cards. I have just finished burning the pics to disc, and copying the files from the disc into my desktop. Over 1400 pics so far! :scared: Which I know isn't much to some of you, but it is a lot to me! :rotfl2: We still have another 160 or do that need to be copied but I am out of blank disc space.

So now what? Do I leave the photos on my desktop? Load them to a hosting site? Just keep the discs? I know DH wants to post photos here, but once he has done that is there a logical way to store all these images?

Also, DH made the file size MUCH BIGGER about 3/4 of the way through the trip. Not quite sure why he did that. Is there a way to make the files smaller, or are they going to stay that way? Any reason to leave the files huge if we are not printing out giant prints?

Thanks! :)

I'll tell you what I do with my image files.

I keep a backup on 2 hard drives and also on DVD's. I use smugmug to be able easily share the photo's with family and friends and also to be able to post images here. This also acts as an additional backup should anything happen to my other copies that I have for backup.

We also have our main computer in our living room, so I set up my screen saver to play my images. I currently have close to 3000 images that it searches though and plays a different image every 6 seconds.

As for the file size, why would you not want the highest resolution? Sure it takes up some more space, but HD's and media cards are very inexpensive now compared to just a few years ago. I always keep my images at the highest resolution I can. It shows more detail and always allows for better croping and better looking enlargements. When you take the photo you never know what image your going to want to crop or enlarge. Its better to have a bigger file and not want to crop or enlarge than to have a smaller file and wish you had it bigger.

Thanks! I was looking at the SmugMug site a few weeks ago. We might sign up with them. Right now when we post pics here we use PhotoBucket.

As far as online storage depending on your skill and comfort level you might want to look at a place like Lunarpages.
