Hello,

During our stay at Disney we would like to pop into Paris for some sight-seeing. Anyone done this before? Cost? Easy?

Thank you :worship:

Hi Gareth& Hayley and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have a number of questions then just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

If you have not had a look yet, DLP posting rules are here, DIS posting guidelines can be found here.

Cityrama offer trips from the Hotel New York or you can get the RER and diy a sight seeing trip. Do you have a preference?

Yes - very easy. It takes about half an hour on the RER which you can get easily from Marne-la-Vallee. A 'mobilis' ticket is similar to a travelcard in London and gets you access to RER, metro and buses all day - it cost us about 11 Euros each but that was from Bussy (2 stops along) so it might be a little more from M-L-V.

If you have children, they're better off getting a Paris Visite ticket instead of a mobilis as there's no child reduction on the mobilis whereas there is on the PV. The PV ticket offers the same travel options plus also I think some discounted entrances to museums etc - I don't know any more than that as we only wanted the travel. They're more expensive for adults than the mobilis tickets but cheaper for kids as they do a child price.

Hope that helps! Any more questions please ask!

Thank you for the very warm welcome,
Providing my partner and I have a great time at Disney Paris, I'm sure we will, we will be going again and again.

I think we would be better off doing a DIY approach, getting lost in the city kind of thing. :cool1:

I think its going to be a matter of getting a pen and paper out and doing more research. :surfweb:

One thing you have done is settled my fears of it being too expensive to travel to Paris and back again!

I'm off to check out the rules.... cheers for the link.

Also in case it's any help, we did this last Wednesday (my husband and daughter's first visits to Paris so just to see the main sights really) ...

RER to Charles de Gaulle Etoile (takes about 45 minutes as it's right over the other side of Paris).

Got off at C-D-G Etoile to see Arc de Triomphe

Walked Champs-Elysees as daughter wanted to go to the Disney Store!

Walked Ave. Franklin D Roosevelt towards the river

Lunch in cafe by the river

Walked to Eiffel Tower and went up to second floor

Played in fountains at the Trocadero! (it ws VERY hot)

Got boat to Notre Dame - this wasn't the most cost-effective thing to do as it turned out you have to buy a day pass for the 'batobus' (water taxi) but we'd promised my daughter a boat trip and I don't really do boats - certainly not long enough to do a whole round trip! It would have been a lot cheaper to hop on a bus or the metro!

Had a look round Notre Dame

Walked to Hotel-de-Ville

Took metro to Nation then changed to RER for the journey back

MinnieMouse73.... Thank you so much. We now have something to help plan out trip, getting so excited now :goodvibes

We plan on getting married over in the Disney wedding chapel in Florida in the next 3 years.... The whole Disney talk is getting us all :lovestruc

A couple of other things we'd thought of doing but didn't fit in were the Pompidou centre (with the funny escalators up the outside of the building) and Montmartre/Sacre Coeur - maybe next time!

Easy to DIY as per posts above.

I've done paris countless times - it really does depend on your individual preferences, but (a personal) must do in one day would be as follows

River trip from Pont Neuf (you can see Eiffel Tower from here if you're not fussed about going up it)
Notre Dame and a bimble around the two islands - coffee stop on the bridge between the two
Go up the funicular railway to Sacre Coeur, look at the view and pretend you're in Moulin Rouge
Coffee and people watch in Place du Tertre (montmartre)
Arc du Triomphe and walk down the Champs Elysees
Go into the Louvre courtyard for a look at the architecture and pyramids
Lunch in small, checked tablecloth bistro (I have a recommendation if you like?!)
Walk along left bank and look at artists and boquinistes

Unless you're big art lovers I'd skip the galleries. The louvre is so big that you'll never get round it, you could do a quick whip through to see the Mona lisa and some other things (leonardos, etc) but you'll be short changed for the entry fee, iyswim. The Picasso museum is great if you like picasso but otherwise don't bother. The Pompidou is very 'modern' modern art in places - interesting but somewhat impenetrable. I'd go to see the building from outside but not go in! The only one I actually like on a short trip is the Musee D'Orsay, which is a beautiful building and has fab art.

Emergency Kitten, If you have any recommendations as to where to eat in Paris I would love to hear about them.

I do fancy going to the Louvre, Notre Dame and Eiffel Tower.... anything else is a matter of if its not too expensive and we fancy it at the time.

Wow i'm so glad i saw this thread! Lots of great info off everyone! We are thinking about having a day or 2 in Paris next time we go (having ideas for next year and havent even been for our 2nd time yet LOL). But it would be really nice to do a bit of sight seeing and there is some beautiful architecture which i would appreciate- im an interior architecture student. Loads of great photo oppurtunities too!

If it's just the two of you and want somewhere a little upmarket and romantic in the evening but not too expensive The Frigate a little way up river (200m) from Musee d'Orsay is our favourite from before we had kids. Speak a teeny bit of French to start with and you'll get the Maitre'd on side and have a wonderful time, speak loudly and slowly in English and you might get chewy steak! You've been warned!
