So we have a ticket room package booked. We are not panic driven people. However not knowing what may come I’m wondering about cancelation policies and if insurance might be a better option? We are driving so flights are a non issue

My daughter has a cruise planned for July. Her insurance does not cover the Coronavirus. I do not know if that is common, but I suspect it is. I have a trip to Disney planned for April and probably will go unless Disney closes.

No matter the trip, I only ever insure non-refundable components. Keep in mind, within 30 days, only $200 is nonrefundable if you cancel a WDW package. You lose nothing if you modify your dates. Rule of thumb for us is to always modify and not cancel WDW packages.

Most insurance policies do not insure for a pandemic. The company we have used even has a banner on their website that Coronavirus is not insured (unless you specifically are sick and cannot travel per dr orders). You can get cancel for any reason policies—-they typically will reimburse 75%. Cancel for any reason policies can also be more expensive

Similar question to OP so hope it’s ok to ask within same thread...we also always drive and know we will eventually go to WDW later in 2020 if our June trip gets postponed for this so I generally don’t do trip insurance BUT this is the first trip I’ve done since the 2018 ticket changes to date based expirations. So if I purchased tickets separately from reputable 3rd party and I pass their 90 day return policy, II am wondering what recourse, if any, exists for tickets? Would WDW allow a credit toward new tix like they used to do with old tix before the move to date based pricing if my June tix are linked to MDE but unused due to park closure? (Also hopeful that by June this will have run its course already) Trying to determine if I’m really better off buying direct from WDW now to be on safer side? Thanks for any thoughts.

Yes. Though a ticket may expire, it's value does not so you can always use that value toward the purchase of a new ticket. I would highly suggest keeping your receipt from your ticket purchase with the order number on it so you have it on hand in case the tickets disappear from MDE when they expire - that happened to us, but I was able to work with WDW ticketing to find the tickets because I still had the order number.

Most travel insurance won't cover pandemic now its a known event. Only chance is to find a genuine cancel any reason (not time). These normally have to be purchased before any money is spent on holiday
