Long story short - my husband thought I bought the trip insurance, I thought he did (we were both researching it and talking about it, just neither one of us apparently actually purchased!) - our balance is due soon, and when reviewing we realized we didn't buy it.

Is it still possible to purchase trip insurance? We sail this summer.

If you booked tru Costco, they have great last minute insurance which covers pre-exsisting conditions.

If not, you can buy DCL's insurance up to the PIF date.
DCL insurance is lame. Yet it is unique somewhat for "cancel for any reason" insurance. If you fail to sail, for any reason, they will give you a credit , minus insurance cost, for a future cruise. DCL insurance does not have any PEC waiver tough.

These are other options worth consideration;

Absolutely! We bought ours about a month before our last cruise!

Generally if you purchase insurance within 10 - 14 days of making the deposit on the cruise, the insurance is worth A LOT more, and you get a pre -existing condition waiver(PEC) with most companies. Not to mention kids are free usually with a paid adult.

This is the most overlooked / missed opportunity in the travel business.IMO.

Buy travel insurance when you make the deposit and you have a much more comprehensive policy. IMO.

Of course DCL's policy will give a credit for a future sailing. :thumbsup2
Which is awesome, yet it covers less IMO, than if purchased at deposit date.

Happy hunting. :lmao:

The reason I don't often do this is because sometimes I put down a deposit, but then end up canceling before the PIF date because I find a better cruise option, or airfare is not good. My understanding is that if you cancel the cruise before the PIF date, you lose the insurance money.

I see your pain. :)

I do know for novice travelers if you need to move a date the agencies will work with you. IOW, you booked and made a deposit, you paid for the insurance, but you need to move the date, the insurance company will work with you at least once, perhaps more. But yes, if you are a player with dates and such, and always moving dates around, then .... ??? perhaps DCL is the way to go???

That constant movement of dates is way out of my league. ;)

You can buy CSA Freestyle policy through tripinsurancestore up to 24 hours after you PIF and get a waiver of PEC. When I cancelled for a non-covered reason after purchasing this policy, I was offered the opportunity to "move" the coverage to another cruise within the next 18 months, but needed to book the cruise by my original sailing date. -- Suzanne

Thanks everyone - I've got it all set up now. And I've printed the confirmation and put it with my documents so I *know* it's been taken care of! lol
