Hello, having in mind most of us are booking an expensive trip (plane + hotel etc..) far in advance, are you using any trip insurance (like mondial assistance-elvia) to be covered in cas of illness (or anything supposing a problem to have your trip at the booked date)?
Thanks for your opinions

Hey,

We have an annual insurance policy so we're covered from the moment we book- with spending so much on a holiday, I think it's pretty much essential you have it. Hopefully you'll never have to use it, but it will save you a lot of stress if you do.

Bear in mind that the cancellation part of your policy ceases as soon as you leave the UK.

This means that if you have more than one stay booked and anyone is ill so you are unable to move to the next hotel/cruise then you are not covered for any additional accommodation costs you incur.

We fell foul of this last year when my husband was taken ill and we could not go on our cruise in the middle of our trip. We lost the cost of the cruise and had to pay out for additional accommodation when we should have been on the ship.

This was with Norwich Union but we have since found that the other insurance companies are the same - we are struggling to find suitable cover for this year when we have the same type of trip planned.

Susieh: :( Poor you. That's a horrible thing to have happen. Have you tried Natwest Travel Insurance? That's who we're with and its supposed to be five star.. I've had a quick flick through our policy for you and can't see any restrictions relating to that- the restrictions under 'cancelations' don't mention anything to do with your situation. But don't quote me on it! :) I hope it helps...

Hi
We too use Nat West, it's been good to us so far and we've used it before on a multitrip holiday.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, I hope this years trip is a good one.

We wouldn't think of travelling without it. We also have annual insurance and in the last 5 years have used it to cancel a holiday (my friend fell and broke her arm the week before we were to travel), bring us back a week early when a family member died and also to claim for temporary clothing when lost luggage was not returned to us for 3 days.

Thankfully we've never need it for medical expenses but I agree with others who say you should have travel insurance from the moment you book if you want to play safe.

I'm off to Florida next week on BA ....... industrial action planned ....... and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't need to use the insurance one more time!
