Talk to me about trip insurance. We are going in May/June for a little over a week and buying the salute tickets as my husband is military. I’ll be 24/25 weeks pregnant for the trip and I’m thinking about trip insurance as a just in case precaution. Can I get trip insurance for the military tickets? We are driving down so we wouldn’t need to worry about plane tickets. We are DVC so using our points for the hotel.

In the past, Disney has been incredibly accommodating when we had to postpone our honeymoon a few days due to an unexpected death within his unit. They canceled our reservations without penalty which was so wonderful.

That is a good question. We too are DVC and we too sometimes get the salute tickets. I know that you can use the current ones until middish Dec. We are going in early March and our daughter and her husband are using them. I am not sure how trip insurance would work for that. i am going to hang out on this thread and see what others say. Good luck!!!

And with the new baby being due for September, we definitely wouldn’t be going before the end of the New Year if something were to come up. I think I’ve heard USAA offers good trip insurance but I’m just totally clueless as to how it works.

Just make sure you read all the details of any insurance policy to make sure you are covered. Don't assume, even with Disney insurance.

We always buy USAA trip insurance. I have had to make a claim with them and they handled everything perfectly. Are you a USAA member? If so, just go to their website and take a look at their insurance policies. Just be sure to read them carefully. If you aren't a USAA member, I don't think you are eligible for one of their policies.

We are! We have a loan through them so I’m assuming that would make us eligible for their trip insurance? Do you have to get the insurance before you book hotels/buy tickets? I’ve never done it before so kind of clueless how it’s done.

Get your insurance after you have booked non-refundable items. I would suggest you call them directly to discuss various options since this is your first time and especially ask them about how pregnancy is covered. If it is considered a "pre-existing" condition, there may be some special issues concerning this. You will want to ask about that. Give them a call today or tomorrow. They are very easy to deal with!

Do the tickets lose value after expiration? Or can they be applied to a future ticket purchase?

Can you purchase the tickets on WDW property or close by (Shades of Green)? So, within 65-ish days of going? Although I'm not sure what rides you would be going on that needs FPs...

I wouldn't get it. Your salute tix will be good until mid-Dec. I would assume Disney would be pretty accommodating in terms of moving your dvc stay. Obviously, no guarantees, but that's what we'd do.

Sorry, just caught that you definitely wouldn't be going before the end of the year. Honestly, I'm not sure how I'd handle that situation as I'm not sure who, if anyone would cover the salute tix if you didn't use them.

I've used Insure My Trip online. I'm pretty sure they reimburse for any non refundable park tickets. My friend had to file a claim when her flight was delayed and she lost a day on her tickets. They reimbursed her for the lost day. I would definitely call and ask questions regarding the tickets to be sure.
