I've never purchased trip insurance before so I'm not really sure how it works.

I was wondering if it would cover if our one year old at the time gets sick & we are unable to go on our trip.

He has gotten bronchiolitis alot this past winter due to his lungs being underdeveloped because he was premature. We are hoping next cold/flu season is better but I would hate to take him if he is going through another round of this.

Thanks for your hlep!

You would want to choose an insurance plan that not only covers preexisting conditions, but that you're sure would cover your specific situation.

You have to do a bit of research and find a plan that covers your particular situation. Like any kind of insurance, they cover a variety of cases. Yours will be different because it is considered a pre-existing condition.

Also make sure you realize you can possibly get a refund, but you lose the cost of the insurance for obvious reasons.

I agree regarding the importance of ensuring that pre-exsisting conditions are covered with the policy that your choose.

Our first family trip ended when both DD and DH got sick. I do not remember which company I had the policy with, but we were able to receive almost all of the "unused" money portion of our trip. If your boy gets sick, I highly recommend that you call the travel insurance company asap to ensure that you do all of their requirements to receive a refund. I was required to take DD to a dr while on vacation, which cost us losing a day at the park, another night at the hotel and not being able to recoup that day or night lost, but we did not have any problems receiving a refund. Also, I had a VERY bad experience with DD at Centra care. DD was dx'd with a cold. She actually had Coxsackieviruse.

You are being very diligent and proactive which will help if you do need to use the insurance. Also, bring a thermometer with you. CBR only had the forehead strip ones, which are not very helpful.

HAVE A GREAT TRIP and sending positives vibes for no illness during your trip. ::yes::

I know for Allianz at least you have to purchase trip insurance within 14 days of your original deposit in order for pre-exisiting conditions to be covered, so keep that in mind as you are making your decisions.

Thanks for all of your help! We're not planning on going until October so we have some time. I will make sure that pre-existing conditions are covered though.

Bronchitis is not a pre-existing condition, so I don't know why you should worry about that stipulation. I'd shop around and look at the fine print carefully to make sure it covers non-emergent illnesses acquired either right before or during your trip.

If the bronchitis is caused by being premature it would be considered a preexisting condition.

Bronchitis is a secondary infection caused by a cold or flu virus. It is related to the prematurity, but not caused by the prematurity. Each case of bronchitis is new--therefore not pre-existing.

I would make sure you purchase a plan that is a "cancel for any reason" up to one hour prior to flight departure. That is what I always purchase.

I'll be sure to look for this kind even if it costs a little more. That way we will be covered regardless. Thanks!

You may want to look at Travel Guard's Silver Plan. They cover for pre-ex conditions if you purchase within 15 days of trip deposit. It also covers children under 17 free if parents have coverage. Their team is great to work with if you need to make a claim (I'ved had several clients make claims all with good results). It's the insurance I buy for my family and particularly my son.

Thanks, I will definitely check them out.
