trip insurance...is this cancel for any reason?

I want to get insurance just because my parents are 85 and 88 and, well, who knows what can happen. In pricing out the different companies would this be covered under "cancel for any reason"? The prices I'm getting are usually more than Disney if I check that one.

It really depends on the policy. There should be a definition of what is covered but I would think it may be under medical not cancel for any reason. The quotes I have gotten the cancel for any reason add a significant amount to the cost.

Yes, read the definitions. Most regular policies include things like illness, death of close family members. Cancel for any reason policies are usually used more by people who might have to cancel for work reasons and things like that.

Adding "cancel for any reason" onto an insurance policy alwasy raises the cost significantly. Cancel for any reason is just that - you will get a percentage of your non-refundable costs back if you cancel, literally, for any reason (like you don't want to go any more or for another reason that isn't covered under the regular policy). I would read through the policy you are considering purchasing. If you are going to go on your cruise if everyone is healty, a regular policy would probably be fine. If you won't go because your parents (or you) become ill or for another medical reason, you will most likely be covered by a policy without having to add "cancel for any reason". I've purchased countless travel insurance policies and have only once added "cancel for any reason" because we were about 9 months away from our sailing and I wanted a little flexibility in case a work or school-related (non-medical) issue arose which wouldn't have been covered under a typical policy.
