Help! My DD, age 3, just broke her arm. 2nd time, same spot, last time was over a year ago. She is currently getting it set as I write. We are set to cruise on 2/15!!!!!!

Here is my dillema.... from past experience she probably won't be able to swim, and personally I think it would be cruel and unusual punishment to take her - she LOVES the pool slide, and all day at Castaway Cay without going in the water?

I purchased insurance thu DCL. So did my sister who is going with us and has the cabin next door. To make things a bit complicated, rescheduling is out right now because she is pregnant and by the time the cast is off my sister will be past the allowable time for her to go.

Any possible chance of getting a refund? We are booked on the Magic in Sept. and I'm fine with DCL keeping our $$ and just applying it to that cruise, but where does that leave my sister?

Thanks!

I would call DCL ASAP, and inquire about this....

Hugs to your DD, as this is never fun:grouphug:

Can you just cover the cast? I mean you have to enclose it in plastic for showers/baths, can't you do the same thing for the pool? If she is only 3 she would only be able to be in the Mickey ear anyway...right? Not sure because I don't cruise with young ones, so forgive me if that is wrong.
I just know that I saw a young gal on the last cruise with a cast and she just put a plastic bag on the cast for water stuff. Now the sand at CC may be another story...not sure how sand down a cast is gonna feel...:confused3

If that isn't an option, Disney may transfer your money to another cruise, but this close to sailing, I would think your sister would be out of luck. Typically a broken arm isn't considered enough of a detriment to cruising so insurance won't cover it and your sister isn't affected directly. Does that make sense?

Hope you can work it out. Poor little thing, I hope your dd is ok.

Your sister will have to take the cruise or lose her money. I am not even sure if insurance will apply in this case because your DD is not your sister's immediate family.

DD got a gortex liner for her cast, and got the doctor's okay to swim with sand being the only caution!!! :cool1:

Sand I can keep out with a bag... however, bags don't work so well for swimming and getting the cast fully immersed in water. But YEAH!!!!!! Thanks for all of your help...... this has been one of those days!
:scared1:

My sister and I were to cruise together in 2005 on Royal Caribbean. She had to cancel the cruise 4 days before we sailed because her husband needed bypass surgery. I read my insurance policy, and because my non-cruising BIL was considered a close enough family member - I could've cancelled because of his medical condition and gotten a refund. However, it was a cruise for my birthday, so I opted to cruise solo instead - and had a FABULOUS time!

Depending on the wording of the DCL insurance, your sister could probably cancel and get a refund if your daughter was unable to cruise. But a broken arm doesn't make it impossible to cruise - so your sister might not have a medical out. Would she still want to cruise even if you cancel?

**Looks like the cruise is still on - great!

So glad to hear that it looks like you'll be able to cruise after all!

Hugs to you and your DD... and just think how cool to have Mickey & Minnie sign her cast.

Great that you have a solution.

Not sure insurance would cover cancellation since the broken arm would not prevent you from going, just make it a little less enjoyable.

Glad you got the waterproof lining! My DD had it a couple of years ago and even if sand gets in it you should be able to rinse it out with a good stream of water. It worked pretty well for us!

My DD when on a cruise with a broken are I was no problem. She got lots of extra special attention from all the cruise staff!!;) At Walgreens they sale a plastic cover that can go over the cast and arm. It has a rubber seal on the end where the arm sides in. I would be great for keeping the sand out!!

the plasitic cover is great to know!!! we will go to walgreens!!!:cool1: And just fyi... my TA called and apparently all of us would have been covered if we couldn't go, so that is also great to know in case she breaks anything else in the next few days!!! :rotfl2:

hopefully minnie will sign her cast too (its pink, of course!) ...i'll bring sharpies! :goodvibes

Thanks again you all.......

Before you cancel...my nephew broke his arm and he got a cast cover called xerosox and he SWIMS with it!!! Showers, etc. It's incredible, hard to believe that it works but it does! Seen it with my own eyes.

Here's the link: http://www.staydrypropump.com/

Good luck!

Thanks! I ordered the cover from Walgreens, and will do a search for xerosox. What would I do without the DIS????

One thing I forgot. We cruised Princess last September, and my DS had just broken his collarbone. They just needed us to sign a medical disclaimer before boarding, as I guess to protect them:confused3 I have no idea about DCL, and their policies...

I am sure your cruise will be lovely. We had a great time. DS swam, as he had no cast. There were obviously some things we could not do, but we went with the flow, and only did beach excursions. The doctor thought swimming was a great exercise to do. Well, as much as she can I guess with a broken arm.:)
Have a great cruise.
