We bought the trip insurance through DCL, when we booked our cruise, but we did not book our flights through Disney. It is noted on the trip insurance info that they will only cover airfare related penalties, if you cancel, but doesn't say anything about the other air-related coverages, like baggage delay, trip delay, etc. It reads to me that all the other stuff is covered, any experiences?

For example, we are flying in the day before and have a hotel reservation, if (God forbid) our flight is delayed so long that we don't need the hotel, but we get charged anyway, will the trip insurance cover the hotel fees? Or, if our luggage is delayed and we have to buy clothes to cover until it arrives, is that covered.

TIA! :scratchin

DCL insurance only covers those items that were purchased through DCL. If you booked your hotel and/or airfare interdependently, it's not covered by DCL insurance. And the coverage starts the day that any DCL purchased items begins, not before.

Many of us promote the purchase of 3rd party insurance. Typically it costs less and covers more.

The insurance purchased through DCL will ONLY cover those expenses you book through DCL -- for most of us that means just the cruise itself. If you booked your airfare and/or hotel independently, it is not covered by the travel insurance purchased through DCL. You may be able to purchase separate insurance for the pre- and/or post-cruise plans; or check your credit cards to see if those have coverage automatically included if used.

Enjoy your cruise!

So, nothing else like trip delay and baggage delay is applicable, other than the cruise-related items directly? On my info it says that my "Covered Trip" is when I leave my "Home" and ends when trip is completed.

This is the insurance provided by DCL: http://dcl.wdpromedia.com/media/dcl_v0400/Site/DCLContent/Media/Assets/PlanningCenter/DCL VPP DofC v75 06.29.15.pdf

Page 12 addresses "When Coverage Begins" and "When Coverage Ends" -- are you sure you have the insurance purchased through DCL? Or is it possible you purchased a different plan through your TA? DCL insurance does have delay and interruption coverage, but it won't take effect until the date of your cruise unless you also booked your other travel (airfare, hotel, ground, etc.) through DCL.

There should be a phone number on your documentation. I'd call and ask for clarification of your specific questions. Each policy can be slightly different, depending on how you purchased it, from whom, and what it was purchased to cover. Answers direct from the insurance company will get you the info you need.

Yes, I booked directly through the DCL website.

I definitely will call once it gets closer. I just worry because sometimes you will talk to one person, who will give you one answer, then talk to another who says something opposite.

My experience with travel insurance companies is that they seem to know their policies quite well, and can guide and answer questions about what is/is not covered. I suppose not all phone reps know their stuff, maybe I've been lucky in that.

DCL insurance isn't actually "purchased" until the PIF date, so if you aren't yet past your PIF date I believe you can cancel it and purchase from a 3rd party. Rates may be less for more coverage, but you'd need to research it.

Good luck!

I always purchase trip insurance through a 3rd party like Squaremouth.com. I just bought TI the other day for our Panama Canal cruise (booked the cruise last week). When entering my trip info into the Squaremouth site I included the total cost of my airfare, hotel and cruise. I am covered for all those things if a problem arises, not just the cruise.

But, I have already PIF.

I wish I would have thought to research 3rd party TI. :hyper2:

Yes, but is is past the actual Paid in Full date for your cruise? Just because you've paid in full, doesn't mean the insurance has started.

It's purchased on the actual Paid in Full date, to be effective on the first day of the "trip" which in this case is the day the cruise begins, as that's all that you've paid for through DCL.

Your ticker says it's 4 months until your DCL cruise, so I'd hazard a guess it's not past your PIF date. I would say you can cancel the DCL insurance, in that case, if you want to.

Oh okay. Good to know. I will have to look into that! Thanks! :drive:
