Hello Folks:
We are back from our trip, and it was awesome. We first left home on Wednesday and headed to Columbia, SC so my DD7 and DS4 can go to the Riverbanks Zoo. The best part of it is that it was free for us as we are zoo members of the Knoxville ZOO, and they have a reciprocal agreement. Anyways, my DS loves to se tigers, and we got there just in time for its feeding. He loved it!!! My DD loved the reptile/ aquarium part of that zoo, and we all had a good time there.
Thursday afternoon We took off and went to Savannah GA to spend the night, so that we can have a easy trip the next day.
On Friday morning we headed to FL, stopped at St Augustine to see the Fountain of Youth exhibit (I had been there before, but it had been almost 20 years ago). Anyways, there were several large peacocks and my DS got so excited when one of the peacocks spread out its feathers. Anyways, after a couple of hours wandering around there, we headed to Orlando. We stayed at the Wyndham Reunion Resort for a week, and it was great. The place has 3 golf courses (unfortunately I did not have enough time to play any of them) and its own waterpark, which we used quite a bit. After we unpacked, we went striaght to a pool to unwind (waterpark was closed at this point).
Saturday My DW wanted to go shopping, so off to the outlet malls we went. She found all sorts of stuff, then we went back to the resort for the waterpark. It has a lazy river, 3 waterslides, and a water-bucket dumping splash area. The kids absolutely loved it, as did DW and myself. Saturday night after dinner we decided we needed desert at DTD, and unfortunately, it started to downpouring on us as soon as we hit I-4. The good part is that it had stopped by the time we got to DTD for a ghiradelli brownie sundae!! After wandering around DTD, it was back home to get rested up.
Sunday, we were up and out the door early to go back to DTD to see my DD7 get transformed into Princess Jasmine at the Biddidi Bobbidi Boutique (it was her birthday present, as she had just turned 7 a week before). After a hour or so for the transformation, it was lunch time, and we headed over to the T Rex restaurant. The kids like the dinosaurs (as do I) and they were able to go into the Build a Dino where my DS made a saber-tooth tiger, and DD made a stegosaurus. Then we decided to walk off some of meal around DTD, then head back to the waterpark before it rained on us again.
Monday was another first, which we all went to Legoland. This was also a greast deal for us as we had special coupons to get the kids in for free. Seeing the lego creations at DTD is very unique, but seeing everything that is done at Legoland is truly amazing. Just to think that there are people getting paid to play with legos!!! I do not remember any booths like that when I was going to all of those jobs fairs in college!!!! Anyways, they have a few rollercoasters, a lego safari ride and a lego zoo which my DS thoroughly enjoyed, and my DD favorite was the Lost mummy ride, which is like an Indiana Jones theme aspect to it, with vehicles with guns like the Buzz Lightyear ride at MK. My DD and DS were able to drive boats (they were not on any tracks) and we did a fire truck race, which is a workout as you have to pump the fire hose and to move the truck. The only bad thing about the day is that it was very humid, and it wore all of us down, but not out.
Tuesday we headed over to the west coast to spend a day with my family and friends. My DS and DD were able to see their cousin and goof off with him for the day, and we all just relaxed and joked around for the day. My brother, his wife and ds came back to our place to spend the night as they were joining us the next day at AK.
Wednesday, we all piled into my Griswold mobile to head on over to AK. It was the first time for my DS and DD to be there, and they were excited. We got right when it opened up, and my brother and I headed straight to the safari ride for FP, then the rest of the family joined us and we went to Asia to do the animal trek. My DS was beside himself as he was able to see 5 tigers!! After doing the walking and the safri ride we went to the Lion King show, and my DD eyes lit up like you would not believe!! She loved it!! Right after this bith my DD and DS asked me if they could come back to AK next year! Afterwhich we did the Its tough to be a bug. My kids liked it at first, but when it got completely dark when Hopper and crew were attacking us, they did not care for it so much. My DD and I went on Dinosaur with my brother and his DS, and she made it through the ride, but she did not care for that either. By then it was time for food so off to the Flame Tree BBQ, where we ate like Pumbaa!! The kids really enjoyed the Nemo show, and the Jungle Parade. Baloo tried to take my DD drink away from her!!! After the parade we went on the Kali River Rapids ride, and I got drenched!!! My DS was not too sure about the ride, but after the first dip and realized what the ride is like, he loved it!! By the end of the day, we took the kids over to see Pooh, Tiger and Eyeore. The both said they liked Legoland, but liked AK a whole lot more.
Thursday was just a day of rest and relaxation. We did a little shopping early, but most of the day was set aside for the waterpark.
Friday we headed back home and stayed at a hotel just south of Atlanta. On Saturday, we went to the Atlanta Zoo. It was not free, but we did get a discounted rate for it. The kids were able to see more tigers and lions, but they were really impressed with the Panda bears. After see all of the animals and walking around for a couple of hours, we made it back home Saturday night. The very first thing that asked me Sunday morning was when can they go back to AK, and MK!!! So I guess thatis in our plans for next year. I have no problems with it.
