Trip Commando Anonymous – A 7 Step Plan w/Pics (The End)

Gentle readers I have to admit that this trip report has been on the back burner. Midterms during in an MBA program have a way of taking over ones life. Ask my family they’d be happy to complain all about it.

Anyway upon further review it looks as if it is time to take you into the one park that always makes me feel like I’m in WDW – The Magic Kingdom. This park is one though that my mother really has no love for. Epcot and AK have become her preferred parks but the MK has totally stolen my heart.

Now I’m not totally sure how this occurred but some how I forgot to set the wake up call for EMH hours and mom didn’t realize we had early plans so we got up late. Now this sent my commando instincts on high alert mode. I forgot everything about trying to reform and play nice and basically military marched my little group out of the room and down to the busses where we once again played bus roulette :rolleyes1

Traveling Plutopants was spotted creeping out the balcony window. Hmm I think he knew that the TC (trip commando) was back in force and he moved out of the firing range.

By the time we made it to the MK it was nearly time for regular opening and I was beyond ticked. I look back at what happened next with complete and total apology to my mom and those around me. My mom is pre-diabetic and has to eat. I was so concerned about using up the little EMH time we had left that I tried to push past this issue. To say the least mom and I had a meltdown. She threatened to head back to the resort and I could just see my MK day heading towards the dumpster. I don’t know what’s up with this park but some how my love for it doesn’t quite love me this trip :confused3

I spent breakfast gazing at my favorite castle trying to get my control back together. Somehow I got it together and we managed to patch up the argument and move on. This commando is trying to reform but it is tough. This was one of the more difficult steps of the reform but we made it through with only a slight scratch. Sorry mom….

We next moved on towards Buzz as this is my son’s favorite ride in the MK. On the way though I noticed the line at Stitch and wondered if we should give it another shot. Now we first tried this ride shortly after it opened and none of us were overly thrilled. I “forgot” to let my son in on the chilly dog smell so that’s about all he remembers. Oh that and the dark which doesn’t make him too excited either. I left him and mom in line at Stitch with her trying to convince him of giving it a short while I ran for Buzz fast passes. The line of here was also real short so I thought finally the morning is looking up.

We ended up convincing son to give Stitch a shot. Mom and I talk about how the robot in the first section was so much better done that the one at KSC and how they could use some Disney magic over there. We encountered Stitch (which I thought had been toned down by the way) and moved on to Buzz. It wasn’t time for our fast passes but the line was short so we hopped in and within about 5 minutes we were shooting our way through the galaxy.

As I was recovering from a collapsed lung the big rides were out so we moved on out of the area into Fantasy land. We used fast passes and short lines to make our way through a couple favorites – Mickey’s Philharmonic – which by the way MarkyMark – I couldn’t find the “special scene but I did look” Peter Pan. My mom loves this one probably because it scares the begeesos out of me….. – Heights I do not do. I did maneuver my way into an inside seat however so all was good :rolleyes1

We then headed over to the Haunted Mansion while the crowds were still low and easily walked right in. I just love this ride. The animation and magic is true and real and definitely Walt.

Next up we saw that the Castle Show was in progress so I roped my son into watching a short section. One of my favorite characters is Belle from Beauty and the Beast – I’ve been known to loose myself in a book well more than a time or two…. As she was finally in the yellow ball gown I had to snap a picture.

j06001.jpg

We then moved on to the back of the castle. I finally found Cindy’s well and fell in love with this statue. I still have never found the carriage so if anyone knows where that can be found send me a PM please!!!!!!!!!

j06013.jpg

A quick stop in the castle store and a couple others along the way and it was time for our lunch reservation at the Liberty Tree Tavern. My son wanted to ride the Jungle Cruise so I ran over and grabbed fast passes and took a look at the Pirates line. This was wall to wall sea of humanity so I knew that we would be avoiding that area.

We enjoyed our lunch at the LTT (see my review) and had our first encounter with the UCD or uninvited creepydee.

Now all I knew at the time was that my son had met a son and dad in line at the restroom at the LTT. Nothing out of normal here as my son is very outgoing and friendly (ie talk your head off kind of kid). He did say the dad asked where he was staying and he TOLD him!!!! He got a major talking to about this one. Arrrhhhh kiddo strangers are strangers remember!!!! I really didn’t think too much more about this but it would bite us in the end.

At the end of the lunch I disappointed my son and told him that our fast pass for the Jungle Cruise was for hours later and it was time to head back. I had that nasty H word to do and he and grandma were going to the pool which cheered him up immensely. We wondered back out of MK and headed for the busses again.

We arrived back at the BC and mom and son got changed for the pool. I tried to work on homework but eventually gave it up and joined them. Here I met with a freaky surprise…

Great trip report! I never knew I was a commando, but now I guess I have to own up to it. Fortunately I belong to an entire family of commandos! Is there a support group for us?

Gentle reader what surprise should appear – the Uninvited Creepy Dee from the LTT :sad2:

Now this could be a cowinkiedink but this guy was at SAB along with his son at the same time we were. At first I thought okiedokie someone for son to play with at the pool. But then this guy kept tagging along (with no wristband by the way). Anyone else think this is a bit odd??? Now I’m just a small town girl but I’ve watched CNN. I decided that the pool time was over and hoped not to see Uninvited Creepy Dee again. Unfortunately this was not to be…..

The evening was upon us and we had yet to decide what to do. My son wanted to ride the monorail so we decided to give in to this and on the way visit our “home” that we had missed so much this trip :moped:

Now gentle reader what we did next is a big “no no” unless you are just out for a relaxing evening with no time frame set whatsoever. This is the long way and no self respecting trip commando should ever do this. However as I have mentioned before I’m trying to reform….

We headed out to the IG of Epcot. As always (well except for EMH morning) this entrance has nearly zippo in the bag check or entrance gate. We walked right on in and through the park towards the Exit. A quick tip – head through the back entrance of the character connection building for a few less steps. At this time the line leaving Epcot was something else but we just followed along with the masses and entered the monorail we thought would take us to the MK. Nope not to be this is just the first of two monorails that one has to grab to end up on the resort monorail system. We eventually made it to the CR and walked out to the boat launch to the WL. We took the relaxing boat ride we love so much over to our “home"

As soon as we stepped foot on the boat dock at the WL a sense of peace started to fill the air. A few steps over to the pool area and a few tears later gazing at our best room ever – Bear Face – (well not really tears but it sets the mood) and then a few more steps and I felt all the tension float away as I took in the wonder of the WL lobby :cloud9:

Okay I know all this sound kinda mushy for a trip commando but this is “it” for me and as we’ve started planning our next trip we have come to the conclusion that it will be the WL for us from now on.

We headed over to pat Humphrey’s nose and then into the gift shop. My mom was working on her collection from something from every resort. She had planned on all snow globes but for some unknown reason in Disney marketing not all resorts have these?? Oh well she got a really neat one at the WL along with a couple other items. I kick myself now for not doing the same but oh well next trip :woohoo:

We weren’t all that hungry but needed a snack so we went down to check out the Roaring Forks quick eatery. There has been several changes made here some we liked and others that gave us pause but all in all not bad. We grabbed one chicken strip meal and a chocolate brownie (best ever anywhere) and enjoyed this casual meal more than I had enjoyed any other all trip. What a shared food court meal better than a planned ADR??? :confused3

Did this trip commando really say that???? OMG the transformation is beginning!!! Na not really a trip commando doesn’t change her spreadsheet ways that easily! However, I really can’t explain it but that evening was one of the best all trip. Nothing really exiting just calm peace that even now I can close my eyes and see clearly.

We decided to forgo the 45 minute monorail “ride” and took the WL bus over to Epcot. As the BC doesn’t have an Epcot bus we had to go through bag check and card slide once again. This time mom has her WL packages and wondered if the whole loot would have to be opened but nothing too it as it was in a WDW bag. Apparently those are okay?

Whatever we enjoyed as always the lighted walkways and walked on tired but thankful to be there feet back to the BC. It was late at this point so we sent son to the shower and off to the day bed – I will miss this at the WL – maybe he can sleep on the balcony – okay for crying out loud it was just a suggestion…. :p

I stayed up till gosh only knows what time doing homework as my assignment was due to the next day and we had plans for then as you will hopefully read about next time….. :hourglass

Minnie ~
Thanks for the latest installment.

And my kids would probably LOVE to sleep outside, if we gave them the option! (Well, at least my older one would. My baby would sleep anywhere as long as his mama was holding him!)

Can't wait to read the rest. And I hope creepydee guy doesn't show up anymore!

Thanks for posting :cool1:

Unfortunately the creepydee guy appears again soon :hourglass :sad2:

The next morning I awoke to find Traveling Plutopants making his way back into our room as he knew it was time for some “Sizzlin” fun with Yak and family.

j06020.jpg

This was EMH at the AK and we wanted to be there for opening so we planned an early breakfast at Boma’s at the AKL and called valet for the car so we could head over to the Pop afterwards to drop off Plutopants for Yak and grab’s mom’s souvie.

I’m still working on my restaurant reviews but hope to have Boma’s up soon. So check out this link (enter later) if you get a chance. It was definitely no bargain with my DS’s tiny appetite but we enjoyed it anyway.

After Boma’s we stopped off in the gift shop. Though I have my negatives about the AKL resort it does have a fab gift shop. Mom ended up with a really cool snow globe for her collection.

We then headed to AK for entry. It was still early so we were able to park up front. The odd thing was at this point it wasn’t even 9am and they were letting everyone in no matter if they were resorts guests or not. I may get flamed for this comment but….

I sure the heck hope this is not the beginning of a trend. This is one of the main reasons we stay onsite and this morning it was worthless.

Anywhooo we wondered into AK with the masses. We were determined to do not only our favorites but also take the Treks that we had missed on earlier trips. I grabbed all the tickets and headed for the fast pass machines. After remembering our horrible time last trip in the standby line mom was more than happy to go with me on this one.

Since we had plenty of time we wondered through the gift shops, took the Trek (skipped the bats) and really enjoyed this area. We have skipped these nooks many times in favor of the rides as this is a hot park but this time I have to admit I really enjoyed it and would like to actually skip the rides sometime and just visit everything else. OMG did this commando just say wonder around without the rides????? – the transformation continues.

Some of the great photo ops that we’d missed on previous commando style trips ((ashamed))

It was finally time for our fast passes so we did the quiet (nananana bobobobo to all those in the 60minute stand by line) and quickly boarded our tram. For the first time ever we were in the very last seat of the tram. Now gentle reader all I can say is when they say hold on to your belongings – they mean this for the peeps in the back. This was the Tiggerest ride ever but we thoroughly enjoyed it as always.

This is one of my faves:

j06085.jpg

We then decided we were going to suck it up and do the Flights of Wonder for son. He is a definite “bird person” and we’ve never done this before so it was time. On the way there we noticed the drinks that every park in the “World” should have – refillables! These had zoo animals but why not have one with a “park” character at each location with a refill zone like at the water parks? It was one heck of a value and we filled this up every chance we got. I don’t know if these are a new addition to AK or not but it was terrific!

Since there was plenty of time before the FOW we decided to grab Kali fast passes which was another of son’s faves. The “zoo” over there showed us this was a grand idea so we had a cool snack and waited for FOW. This was surprisingly not bad. The fly over your head crap though is definitely “for the birds” so sit in the way back if you’d prefer not to experience this part.

This pic will give you sort of an idea:

j06156.jpg

It was almost time for our Kali fast passes so we headed that direction. I came up with the “brilliant” suggestion of grabbing Dino fast passes that would end up costing up $21.00 later if that gives a clue.

Hope to be back soon with the rest of our AK day.

Oh gentle reader I have to tend my apologies that my trip report has been put off for so long. I have just emerged from final week and am thrilled to have time to write for fun again.

We emerged from FOW with plenty of time before our Kali River fast passes so I the fast pass runner extraordinaire decided to run over and grab them for Dinosaur which is my favorite ride in AK. This would be one costly decision but we’ll get to that in a bit.

I met back up with the mom and son at Kali and we ran through the fast pass line yelling “nananana bobobobobo” – no not really but we thought it as we quickly walked through the line. We got a wonderful showering of pixie dust when the CM let our family of 3 through before holding up the line due to inclement weather. We were literally the last raft through Kali before it was shut down due to a pending storm.

Now as much as I love my mom there is one ride where I will never ever sit near her on and that is Kali. She has about a 99% batting average of being the soakee on this ride. Son was nuts enough to sit with her once again and of course on that last plunge her side of the raft went down backwards and the wave pummeled both of them. I walked away with a smile inside about the soaked attire and hair of both of them unknown at the time that fate was waiting just around the corner to bite me in the "bohunkus" for these thoughts.

It was just starting to sprinkle but instead of heading for the exit I lead my group across AK to the Dinosaur ride – fast passes to use ya know. About the time we hit Dinoland the heavens open and we are the way to getting soaked. We hurried – well son and I ran to the trees near AK to take shelter while we waited on mom. Her terms for son and I – “water wimps” – yes I wear this badge proudly as I demonstrated on Kali many of times with the wearing of the Poncho in 110 heat. We then made a break for it and headed for the Dinosaur fast pass entrance.

Okay here is where I may turn a crispy critter due to the flames send my way but I gotta say it:

Okay I was once the parent of a toddler and part of the stroller posse so I try to show tolerance for those with strollers. In this case though I could have cheerfully blasted this woman :furious:

It was not time for her fast pass return yet she blocked the fast pass entrance with her stroller to keep her “darling” out of the rain. Hey lady did you miss the cover right over there or the trees that the rest of us used to wait our turn????? :confused3

Eventually we kinda played the maze game and made it past the idiot and headed towards the holding room and our date with the Dinosaurs. As always I loved this ride and tricked my son into watching most of the ride by asking him which dinos he was missing for his collection.

Now let me tell you gentle reader a little more about my son. He is my miracle – the baby I almost lost and spent 6 weeks with family playing chauffeur driving 4 hours each day to be with as he was born a preemie with a health problem. Due to this he has ADD and is immature for his age. He is more affected by things like the Dinos than other boys his age so it was a big deal to make it through Dino. I cherish this time in his life as he is still “little” in certain ways. Each day though he matures just a little bit more and my heart weeps while my pride leaps each day.

Okay enough mushy stuff. At the end of the ride we hit the dump shop and discovered where every other sole in all of AK must have been at the same time. It was absolutely pouring outside with no signs of letting up. The crowd was good for one thing – son’s birthday was around the corner and I was able to ship a few dino things back to the resort without him being any the wiser. I also made one other purchase – 2 ponchos - $14.00 later – mom scoffed and said she was already so soaked she didn’t need one.

Well by the time we made it out the door it was down to a sprinkle – ah fate it can sure swipe ya in the "bohunkus" every once in a while. Since it was down to a sprinkle and mom still need a souvie from the park for her collection we headed into a coupe other stores. Now remember now I mentioned $21.00 and we are still $7.00 short at this point. Well before we got out the rains came back with a vengeance so mom ended up with a poncho anyway as she was almost dry at this point - who's the "water wimp now"? :lmao: :rotfl2:

We drugged our way out of the park with the rest of the masses at AK. We headed for the AKL bus stop to return to our rental car and then headed to the Pop to drop off Traveling Pluto Pants for his stay with YAK and grab mom a souvie. One thing about the Pop. They have the lamest “Pop” souvies of any resort on property.

We then headed back to the BC for a rest as we had BIG plans for the evening. Which I will hope to tell you about in a little while.

See ya real soon!

Minnie,

Thanks for posting again. Great update. I figured you had abandoned the trippie, good for you for continuing it!

Just found your TR, love it, it is great! When were you there? No mention of Exp Everest, did you try it?
I totally agree with you on BC bus situation. For a deluxe price, they have really poor service. You should not have to share with other resorts and there should be more than one bus to MK!
The IG entrance is such a great perk of the Epcot resorts, though!
How great for you to have such a fun vacation with your mom and son, you deserve it! Congrats on finishing your finals, hope you did well.

Scrap4u – When I clicked on your TR I found that we were in the “world” at the same time in May. It was only a quick Mother’s Day weekend trip for F&G Show but it was awesome. Thanks for reading!

Marita – Faithful Viking reader you! As always I thank you for reading and posting! The last couple of weeks were tough with that class – someone forgot to tell me that grad classes are tougher than undergrad. No fair as it really cuts on my Disin and ((sun)). ½ way there with only 7 more to go!

Teentoddlermom – We were there from 7/8/06-7/15/06 and can’t wait to go back! As for EE well my son and I rode it during our May trip and wrote a review of it (if you do a search with my user name it will come up). We didn’t ride it this trip as I was recovering from a 4-wheeler accident that left me with a punctured lung. Fun times.

justplaingoofy and gopack – Thanks for reading and posting!

This was the night that we’d been waiting for years for. A trip to Cirque du Soleil. We’ve always considered going but just never took the time nor decided that it was worth the $$ to go. This year though we had annual passes with a nice discount to use and I spent one after noon studying the brochure for ticket options. Truth be told the first time I spoke with the ticket office I was kinda disappointed as the best tickets available were in the very tippy top row direct center. This building looks huge so I was sure that we’d see bukus from clear up in the nose bleed section. We ended up booking the tickets and hoping for the best. I was also a little concerned that my son wouldn’t care for it as it was really a circus as the name implies.

Before heading off to Cirque though we planned on eating at the Earl as this gets great reviews on the Dis. However after taking a look at both the menu and the line out the door we decided to pass on this option. We ended up heading over to the Wolfgang Express and ordered 2 children’s pizzas as everything else really wouldn’t work for our pickiness (reviews in Picky Eaters Return to the World).

After this we did a little shopping but mom was so concerned about possibly missing picking up our Cirque tickets (she knows how I am once I get into the WOD store) that we ended up heading over to the West side very early. We easily picked up our tickets at will call and began the waiting process.

Mom found a concrete bench area and decided to “people watch” :3dglasses so son and I ended up walking in a few stores. We wondered into one store that offered a couple of Disney video games to play for free. As son was quickly absorbed into the game world I quietly snuck over to a CM to find out what he was playing. Well it ended up being Kingdom of Hearts for Playstation. This would soon top DS’s most wanted list so I tucked the idea away as he had a birthday coming up the next month :hourglass

Eventually it was time to head into Cirque. I can’t really do this special event justice with words so I will just have to say – GO!!!!! It was worth every penny and is one of my most treasured memories as my son was really just an exited little boy once again that sat glued to the performance. He rolled with “belly laughs” at the clowns and sat mystified by the performers. He still talks about our night there and if I ever see another Cirque performance anywhere close I will be ponying up the money to take him and hope for the stars in his eyes and laughter once again

The seats by the way were absolutely perfect! The building is really fools those that have not been inside. You have to go up a ton of stairs to get to the seating level and he actual stage area and seating area is much smaller that what one would expect. Much of the action is up in the air so we were able to watch easily without straining our necks like those in the front row. An absolutely magical evening! Oh and as a tip the 2 popcorn/2 drink deal is a great special and a neat usable souvie :thumbsup2

Now I have to hand it to mom on this one. I though about walking back through the Westside attractions to catch the bus but mom said it would be faster to take the sidewalks around like we did the last time and avoid the traffic. This was a great move by the way as we beat the hordes to the busses. This by the way is a major pet stinker!

Rant:
Why in the heck WDW thinks it is acceptable to have one bus servicing 4 deluxe resorts is beyond me. :confused3 These are not dinky little resorts either but massive resorts that should not be sharing busses especially for the cash they charge to stay there! :furious:

Okay rant over. We made it back to the resort and up to our rooms quite easily. We initially considered hitting the quiet pool to use the hot tub but decided to forgo this as it was quite late by then and we had another big day planned. Times like these made me miss the closeness of the WL were we always made time for that last hot tub dip. Next time we're going "home"! :lovestruc

Well that's all for now folks. Hope to be back with Day 6 soon.

Finally my mom in all her wisdom got the courage to ask the life guard what the real problem was and was told – pool maintenance. Now gentle reader I’m not quite sure what that meant and too be very honest I didn’t want to know. We just knew that it would be closed for 30 minutes.

Now I would assume that the "all clear" had something to do with well a floater that isn't what one would call a pool toy :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Hope to have more up today :moped:

This morning a trip commando first occurred – no morning plans, no Mickey wake-up call. I had EMH evening plans at Epcot but mom had other plans…..

We decided that we’d spend the morning walking around the Boardwalk area so we went over to the Boardwalk Bakery for breakfast. Now not insult the die hard BB lovers but to be honest this wasn’t any different from any other “bakery” on WDW property. Heck at least at the MK bakery you get a seat looking at the Castle. The food was just okay and lines were out the door so we quickly ordered and finished our “meal.”

Next up was a visit to the main store on the Boardwalk. This used to be our favorite store that we made special trips to visit but this time I have to admit to being disappointed. A couple years ago I found the absolutely perfect necklace for my mom and another year found a great Grumpy sweatshirt for DF. This year I found that they had removed all the “nice” jewelry to the YC store and everything else seemed just too similar to the WOD store in DTD where I’d get 10% off so we left with no purchases.

As the area was really dead that morning all except for a few runners we ended up deciding to the take the boat to MGM as we had spent little time in this park. This ended up being fun but I have to admit my trip commando instincts just wouldn’t let up. I drug my poor family from one attraction to the next, changing my mind as we went. Why I did this I still don’t know but MGM just isn’t a good park for me.

We did see some attractions that we had previously missed Ariel, Animation, Narnia (biggest waste of time – close to Stitch). We also went to a showing of WWTBAM as we knew it was closing soon. The one show I have still yet to see and it is my favorite Disney animated movie of all time – Beauty and the Beast. Oh well it was burning hot and my family was done :guilty:

Oh this commando did allow her family to eat lunch. Magnanimous of me wasn’t it :lmao: We ended up scoring major pixie dust at the Sci Fi restaurant. We had an ADR for later in the day but since my family was ready to mutiny we walked decided to see if we could get in earlier. As the CM at the counter was searching her screen the manager asked if we were a family of 3. I said yes – he said is the back of a car okay? Absolutely! He said I can take you now! Woo hoo!!!!!!! We walked past stunned guests right into the restaurant were we had a wonderful lunch (see Picky Eater restaurant report). One downer though was the restroom. Apparently there is a back entrance into this restroom from outside the restaurant and the Brazillion teenage tour group had found it. Talk about brats! One literally pushed a small child to the group to get into the restroom with her group. Then they proceeded to change shirts in the middle of the restroom – talk about disgusting! :furious:

The boat back to the BC was great because it was quick and cool inside. Since this drops you off close to the YC we decided to take a look in the YC store. I have to admit I much prefer to this store to the BC store. The apparel YC items were just so much nicer and a greater selection. The only thing we took out of this store though was this picture that I snapped.
j06188.jpg

When we left the YC store we walked out to find a downpour of rain. Instead of “singing in the rain” we decided to see if we could walk to the BC through the YC. This worked out nicely as we got to view the YC lobby as well and we avoided the downpour

What to do what to do in this downpour of downpours????? Well I had homework to do so mom read and son watched TV. Eventually the rain let up so we headed down to the pool for some SAB time.

This was a perfect evening as SAB was not crowded as the rain had driven the hordes away from the pool area. We were able to through the splash balls, float around the lazy river, ride the slide, and just have an all around great afternoon.

All too soon though it was time to head back up to the room. Now mom and I’d had a conversation on the boat over to MGM that day:

Mom “I’m about done with the parks and rides.”
Me “What?????”
Mom “I’m staying in this evening.”
Me “But its EMG night at Epcot!”
Mom “I’m staying in.”
Me “Okay Mom.”

Now this conversation was one where the trip commando realized she’s lost it. She’s drug her poor family from park to park, ride to ride, restaurant to restaurant, and the troops they were a dragging. What was a trip commando to do? Well go to EMH at Epcot with just her son of course! Come one mom just said she was staying in. She was I’m sure ready for some down time and son and I needed some just us time so it worked out great. This is the best thing about vacationing with my mom. While my teenage years were difficult as an adult I have come to value my mom like no other – she is not only my mother but my best friend. I value these trips, pictures, and memories

Up next: Just Son and I – EMH at Ecpot
