Hi all!

looking for some *pixie dust*!!!!

We are slated to be at Disney next week for our daughters 10th bday (delayed) celebration. We are staying at Poly. DH and I are both fully vaxxed and DH also had Covid. Our daughter clearly is not. Numbers are out of control and although we are Nervous, we still want to go. We will be masked and avoid indoor dining . To add to this, However, DD just hurt her leg and she will now have to be wheelchair bound for the next few weeks. I’ve been monitoring the ride waits for the past few days and have been seeing that many rides are over 1 hour long (I’m looking at you Barnstormer!) so now we are really starting to question whether it’s worth it to go since:

A. High Covid cases/no social distancing (will crowds thin out next week since school starts for most of the country?)
B. Long wait times for rides we wouldn’t want to wait for
C. My daughter limited to doing things Bc of her wheelchair (her walking is limited due to wearing a cast but can transition from wheelchair to sitting for a ride

Help me think positive: should we still go? If we limit our park visits, will we have things to do at the resort? We’ve also rented a car so we have that option too. Just don’t want to spend all this $ and then feel like we are trapped.

ANY helpful and kind advice would be appreciated ❤️

My DH and I are flying in from Massachusetts in two weeks, and we're both vaccinated. We planning to avoid the fireworks shows (we'll watch them from our hotel) and have a rental car so we won't be on Disney transportation either. We really don't have a choice about going as we are DVC members who got a "hall pass" when we had to cancel this trip last year and we were allowed to carry over our points one more time for this trip. That being said, if we were traveling with unvaccinated children, we would cancel.

My question to you is...

With everything you listed, and you still come are you going to be able to relax and enjoy it?... or are you going to be so anxious about everything that you are going to worrying every second about it?

Once you can answer this you will know what works for you.

A lot of schools do not start back next week so that might not be a factor as far as decreasing crowds. I'm in Maryland and our schools do not start back until after Labor Day. Honestly, if I were you I would postpone.

Sorry I think you would be wise to delay your trip… Dont forget the monorail is currently not available for the Poly guest and not sure about wheelchair on the small watercraft from the Poly… so basically Bus transport with a wheelchair… and sitting at Pool in Florida sunshine…
Cant imagine adding flight frustration currently with all the storms rolling in and other delays.
The list against this seems way longer than list to keep plans.
What are you at risk of losing with expenses already paid for, etc?

I'm sorry this is all happening to you, maybe it's all happening for a reason.
I'm not sure how often you go to Disney if this is your one trip.
I personally would delay again I know it's not what you want to hear but it's been really hot. Wearing a mask and a cast... no swimming and in a wheelchair is probably not what she had in mind for a birthday celebration.

Thanks for posting this, we are in a very similar situation, though our trip is at the end of August. I have been monitoring, and my heart is just sinking, but I am leaning towards postponing (now for the fourth time since 2019).

I'm so sorry you're going through this ): Personally, I think the trip is still do-able if expectations are adjusted. If the purpose of the trip changes from rides, rope drop to fireworks, hard core touring, or a more relaxed trip (more resort time, sleeping in, casual touring), you may find yourself happy with how the trip goes. This may mean decrease the length of your park tickets, downgrading from hoppers (if you have them), and planning more table service reservations (maybe in off times like 11am and 3-4pm etc).

I would discuss this with my daughter and be very strait forward with her on her limitations. I would be hesitant to go with her right now but if you decide yes is the answer then wear masks inside at all times and wear masks outside when not in large crowds....you be the judge of that. If she does decide to go just do what you had to do before....face masks, sanitize, wash hands and distance when you can....REMEMBER that you have to travel from Airport if you are flying and not just going to be at DW. If you decide to go I hope you have a FANTASTIC time and Happy late birthday to your daughter:bday:

I would postpone for now and plan a trip when your daughter isn’t in a cast and can enjoy the pool etc. Florida is too hot for a cast and a mask. Florida is also experiencing a very high Delta- COVID surge right now.

Curious what you decided to do about your trip? If are there now, I hope all goes well and you have FUN!

Sorry to hear that. We have already cancelled once and are also trying again in late august...hopefully
