Hello!!! Im back! Remember me? Yeah, you probably dont since I tend to lurk on the trip report board, more than comment. Sorry...
So, to fix that:
Hi, Im Dory...
Actually, Im Michelle 35, single, work for a major airline (which makes it easy to feed my Disney addiction), aunt to 4 great little girls (3 by my brother and 1 by my best friend; all are under 5!), and the planner for the family.
My Mom is the other cast member on this trip we travel very well together and she has almost willingly allowed me to drag her down into the Disney addiction!
After our 2 week extravaganza last September with my Aunt Eve (Moms sister), we decided we needed to scale back a little this trip. So, we started looking at a long weekend on site. This somehow turned into a full week off-site because the hotel and car together through Hotwire were going to cost about the same as the 4 nights on-site. (If youll remember from the September trip report, that started out as a 1-week trip to do a self-built land and sea and ended up getting out of control...)
So, there you go youve met us briefly and hang on to your hats and glasses!
Saturday, the 19th
Up and at em! We got a drive ahead of us! Because I work for an airline we can fly free, but it has to be standby. After checking the load factor on flights, we decided that it was smarter to fly out of Oklahoma City than Dallas . So, we hit the door running at 4:15, grabbed coffee and cheese nips in Denton and straight on until Oklahoma . Where we promptly stopped and got a real breakfast at McDonalds!
Back in the car and we arrived on Eves doorstep earlier than planned. She drove us to the airport, where we checked our bags and received A group boarding passes! Hooray!! (Remember, I work for the airline, and since we were flying on my passes we cant check in the 24 hours ahead, we just show up and hope there are empty seats!). Our 9am flight had a grand total of 37 passengers on it! What a way to fly and well worth the 3 hour drive!
We were dropped off at our gate in Orlando 20 minutes ahead of schedule, so after a quick pit stop and luggage grab we boarded our bus to the Hertz car facility. The car was a little small but not bad. And once we get to the hotel, well dump the luggage and be fine! Our traditional Steak and Shake stop (well, traditional when we rent a car on our trips) and a CVS visit, then we were on our way to the Saralago Hotel on 192, next to Big Town .
Actually, it wasnt a bad hotel just old and in need of a little love. Things like:
*the hairdryer couldnt be run higher than medium,
*the chairs in the room were vinyl covered, and
*the coffee-maker that was advertised on the website and had operating instructions on the wall was no longer available in the hotel rooms (seriously, thats what the guy told us when we called...)
But it was clean and very quiet (except for one night when the 2 busses of teenagers came home at 11). And you could hardly beat the location. 5-7 minutes from Hollywood Studios and across the street from McDonalds.
After settling into our room, we decided to go play minigolf at Fantasia Gardens . Because of our early start, we were really too tired to face the crowds at a park on Saturday night. We were given a tee time (10 minutes later) and then started in playing. One especially nice thing was the spacing of the groups. We never felt rushed by the group behind us and I dont think we rushed the group in front of us. We found someone with a temper had played earlier that day.
Mom found a Mama Mockingbird the hard way. That bird started dive bombing her and even caught the shoulder of her shirt (I recommend you stay away from the sign at the beginning of the first hold after the cave during the spring time the Mama Mockingbird only seemed to have a problem if people started using the little table to write on or to set things on it).
Now, one thing to explain my family is Competitive. And yes, the capital C was on purpose. We all tend to be fairly good losers, but we are awful winners! Knowing this, you can imagine our frustration when we tallied everything out and Mom and I both TIED! ARGH!!! Who can claim victory in that situation??? Oh, thats right this is my trip report, Im in control I won!
The day was really starting to catch up with us, so we went back to the room and called in an order for dinner. We played a game of Phase 10 Dice to see who had to meet the delivery man for dinner (told you we were competitive), then settled in with our fantastic dinner (I think it was Giordannos, except we had sandwiches and salads, not pizza) and watched the Mavericks lose their first play-off game.
So, to fix that:
