so as you some know I'm going to a super trip to WDW on October-November 2010 (mainly for Halloween)(two-three weeks). Anyways from Italy to Orlando we must do another city.. there is no direct flight to Orlando. Some months ago with my friend we were thinking to go to NYC to visit a family friend of my friend and then three or four days later we were thinking to take the flight to Orlando. But now my friend told me that she would love to go to Las Vegas..... I want that too... and I was thinking that we could do Italy-Los Angeles (stay some days at LA) and then move to Vegas. After Vegas we would take a flight to Orlando.... what do you think?? is it worth it? Better Vegas or NYC??? I just need some DIS advice :). We would be both 21 years old.
Anyways I was planning also to do Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Orlando (I'm planning staying 2 nights at Hard Rock Hotel).

Personally if it was me I would pick NYC. There is so much to do and see and I think it would be pretty easy to find a flight from Italy to NYC then to Orlando - going out to LA then to Vegas then to Orlando sounds exhausting, but I am sure it would be fun as well if that is what you decide. I get tired flying from California to Orlando, so flying back and forth sounds like a lot and might waste time, and there is sooo much to see in NYC if you have never been there (but obviously there is a lot in Vegas as well).

Good luck- either way it sounds like an amazing trip!

I think that NY really needs more than a few days, whereas you can get a good feel for Vegas in a short amount of time.

Also, if you go Italy to LA, you can go to Disneyland!!! which is a great experience, too.

Good luck with your planning!

so you guys got me thinking... and I have 3 questions... how many hours of flight are from los angeles to las vegas?? from vegas to Orlando???
And if I stay in LA can I visit Disneyland California or is it too far???

LA is not too far from Disneyland, it would be a short drive and would need to rent a car if your hotel is in LA- what other things were you thinking of doing/seeing in LA? If there is not much else you plan on seeing, you should just stay in Anaheim closer to Disneyland.

I have never done the flight to Vegas from LA, but I couldn't imagine it being much more than an hour. But if you do decide to come out to LA can you get a direct flight there from Italy? I am sure if you look hard you can find one, but most flights will probably have a layover somewhere in between (or rather the cheaper flights do ;)). A flight from Italy to LA will be really long...and with a layover it will be really really long- bring lots of good books- or download lots of podcasts :p

Ok, I have to tell you that NYC is the better choice over going to Vegas. I live right outside of NYC and after Disney World, it's my favorite place i've ever been to. I believe Vegas to be a little overrated. I'm not a gambler, so that aspect really doesn't appeal to be. You can still have an incredible time in Vegas for sure, but it just does not compare with NYC. I travel a lot, and no matter where I go, I always find myself missing NYC and thinking it's so much better than any other place I go. Even if you only have a short time in NYC, you can do so much and such a wide variety of things. I know the city really well, so if you told me just a couple things you're interested in seeing/doing, I will help you!

Just sticking in my 2 cents (2 lira?!?), but I think you have to factor in getting to Las Vegas from Italy. Is there a direct flight? If not, you will have a layover somewhere, probably on the East coast. From NYC, I think the flight to Vegas will be about 5 hours - and someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I've never actually done that flight. Because you're both young, I suspect you will bounce back from the time differences with minimal problems (it would take me a few days!). Personally, I would stay on the East coast (Boston, NYC, etc) and adjust to the time difference and then head to Florida.

thanks all for the advice! I think I am too entusiatic and I thought I could also see Disneyland California... but I think it would be really complicated.. as there are no direct flights to LA ( I know... this is nonsense) so maybe I'll stick to NYC ... why is this so complicated!!!!
Anyway another question:
I will definitely go for the Halloween Horror Nights... because my friend thinks she's not afraid of nothing!! ahahaha but I would also want her to see Disney Halloween decorations... do you think it's worth it on doing 2 nights or 3 at Hard Rock Hotel?? I mean are there any advantages for guests staying at the resort (universal studios)??
My trip would start (at Orlando) around the 29th of October ... then two weeks at November and maybe we could manage to see Christmas decorations... is a long trip I want her to see as possible as she can see (it's her first trip)

I just wanted to add to what pklein said in mentioning Boston - Boston is an incredible city as well. I don't know if you are interested in seeing it, but I highly recommend a visit. It is a four hour drive from NYC. Not sure how long it takes on a plane.
