Wow! It was so good! I expected it to be just bread, and it was like heaven. My two favorite donuts are boston cream and the kind with the frosting with coconut. Imagine a dessert with both! The cream puts boston cream to shame! Its so soft and smooth! We also tried the Kringle with almonds but the School bread stole the show. DH is still talking about them and is ready for next year! Thanks everyone for letting us know they exist!

I tried it, too, just last week. I'm salivating right now wishing for another....

We always stop by the bakery in France at least a couple times on our visits. I hope I can remember to stop by Norway for the school bread. It sounds so yummy. It sounds like a great late night snack or breakfast in the RV. :)

I looks like a HUGE donut with cream on top. It has icing with coconut in it and inside it is filled with a wonderful smooth cream (like a smooth pudding). They were so tasty and such a great value for $2.29.

Darn, I knew I forgot to try something last week. Looks like another trip is in order. That schoolhouse bread was something I really wanted to try.

Hmm, it's actually almost the consistency of a savory bread. The bread part itself isn't terribly sweet, so it balances with the pastry cream inside and the coconut on top.

YUM! Thanks for forever posting that picture! I HAVE to try on of those! And I love Boston Cream pie so I bet a donut like that would be yummy!

Anyone wants the receipe ?

If its what I think then I've got it !

This is from my receipe book (I've tried to translate from Danish - I hope I haven't made to many mistakes) :Pinkbounc

I am going to get one of those this weekend. And the best part is DH and DD don't like Coconut. So it will be ALL MINE!! (insert evil laugh here)

I've heard so much about school bread, but I never knew what it was. Thanks, Melanie, for describing it so well (and thanks, Kathleen, for the pic!)
I definitely want to try this now - sounds yummy! :D

Here's a recipe, btw:

School Bread

From the Restaurant Akershus and Kringla Bakery of Kafe Norway Pavilion at Epcot, DisneyWorld, FL

1/2 qt Water
3 oz Yeast (dry)
3.5 oz Sugar
2.5 oz Butter (melted)
1 tsp Cardamom
2 lbs Flour
1 Egg
Heat water and butter to 95 degrees F. Mix flour, sugar, cardamom, yeast and egg together for about five minutes until dough is stiff. Form it like a ball and place in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 45 minutes, or until dough has doubled in size. Roll the dough out like a sausage and cut it into five-ounce pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and put them on a non-stick sheet pan and let them rise for 30 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Let cool.

Mix powdered sugar and water (use small amounts until proper consistency is achieved) to make icing and place in shallow pan. Form hole in bread using your finger. Dip bread in icing (hole side down) and sprinkle with shredded coconut. Using a pastry tube, squeeze vanilla custard into the hole and swirl at top for decoration.

I *thought* there was cardamom in there! I'm looking up the origin of the name now. Then I'm off to Orlando, finals are over!!
