Tricky Situation (need expert advice)!

My family and I planned a December 2017 trip with our dear family friends, whose children had never been to WDW. We were so excited, planned and were lucky enough to get EVERY ADR we wanted for the 9 of us, between my friend's Disney account and mine. Very unfortunately, one of my friend's children was recently diagnosed with cancer and is already undergoing chemotherapy, which will last well over a year. They won't be able to make our trip, of course, and they're going through necessary steps with Disney regarding lodging, etc. My family will still be going (with heavy hearts, but bc we are not blood relatives, we cannot cancel through our trip insurance). Does anyone know how Disney will handle all of our ADRs for a party of 9, now that we are a party of 4? Also, she holds some (as the lead guest) and I hold some. Just looking for the best way to handle everything. Thanks, in advance!

Talk to Disney. If you can cut down the party size on those ADRs it would be nice, as that could open up a table for others. However, if you cannot, showing up short won't create a charge for the others. You can show up with 4 for the ADR for 9.

Similarly, for the ADRs where she is lead, you can show up and check in. Give her name at check in.

Yeah. You may not be able to. If you cannot, hold the ADR if you want to keep the restaurant.
