Tricky First Timer question with lots of issues.

Hey y'all! We are Orlando locals and head to WDW pretty much weekly. We have the opportunity to go with my DH to San Diego for a conference this coming August. I really really really want to take the kids with and head to DL since we will be all the way there already. So here comes my lists of issues. And I am looking for tips and suggestions for what we should do.

Well for me it would be worth the trouble just have the experience.
August is hot so it might actually be better going late afternoon and enjoying the night time experiences.
I would honestly look at the rides and attractions that are not offered at WDW. The parks are crowded at this time so please make reservations for dining. If you can't make it you can cancel. If you are not worried about money, the Blue Bayou is a beautiful experience. Fast passes might run out depending on what time you arrive.
Paint the Night parade is amazing and joyful. I would def recommend watching that parade.

I love California Adventure but if you don't find enough activities your kids will be able to enjoy I would skip it.
Radiator Springs is great but you really need a fast pass for it.

Go to Legoland instead.

I love disneyland and do many crazy things to go to disneyland, but a half day requiring a drive to and from san diego after a flight from the east coast with two kids who can't use single rider.....I would go to Legoland....

But if you do go to disneyland, do the tiki room, walk thru the castle, skip the stuff you can do at wdw. cars land is cool enough that it may be worth going to even if you can't ride rsr. bugs land is fun for the littles.
