Tricep Surgery Anyone?

I was in a car accident in August. I've been going for PT since the end of that month and on Halloween my elbow swelled up. That was the place that my primary injuries were realized.

After laying off of PT for a week, on my dr's advice, I started again and it was very light. Mostly it consisted of electrical stimulation and massage. I woke up the next morning swollen from my shoulder to my fingertips. I couldn't wear my wedding band and I looked like I had a 1980's shoulder pad on on shoulder and not on the other. So, doctor orders no more PT for a while and sends me for bloodwork and an MRI.

It turns out that I have a torn tendon in my tricep. (No wonder I've had no strength in that muscle since the accident.) It's about 98% severed and is holding on "by 4-6 threads" so says the dr. I have to see an orthopod next week.

So, have you or anyone you've known had surgery to repair a tricep? What was the recovery time like?

I can't see the specialist suggesting to not have the surgery. My elbow hurts like crazy and is still swollen. If surgery will make the pain go away, then I'm all for it. I'm also hoping that surgery will strengthen the area around my ulnar nerve so it can regenerate faster so I can regain feeling in my fingers. Since August they feel like their asleep all the time.

I know, poor me, but I'd really like to know of other's positive experiences with this type of surgery. Heck, even some website suggestions would be good.

TIA
