Not me, my Xsi... ;)

I write this because it may help someone who thinks they are going crazy with similar camera issues.

I wrote about my Xsi focusing problems over a month ago, where it front-focused and a trip to Canon's repair center corrected it. I tested the camera and it seemed spot-on. What I did not check was the viewfinder.

It seems the viewfinder is not completely sharp when the camera thinks it is in focus. ***At this point YesDear is probably saying "shoulda' got a Nikon" and I might agree*** Anyhow, it is not my fuzzy eyes nor viewfinder diopter adjustment, when the lens is in focus the viewfinder is not. When I manually adjust the lens so the viewfinder is sharp the lens is considerably out of focus. Hmm... (I write "Hmm", because *deleted* is not acceptable in a family forum).

Several more tests still confirm all this and the Xsi focuses even better than my 30D, which is very good. So, at this point I will probably accept a slightly fuzzy viewfinder (which is usually barely noticeable) since the camera focuses the lens accurately. The other option is to send it back to Canon and take my chances, which seems kinda' iffy.

In the film days we would not have noticed or would not have spent the $$$ to shoot the rolls of film to test this anyway! ;) For now, I am going to forget about focus tests and go take photos!

interesting bob. i never even considered the viewfinder not matching up with the real view...any ideas why that would happen and what you can do about it? just let the auto focus focus for your?

Guess someone won't be doing any manual focusing! :teeth: (Or will be trusting the focus confirmation when in MF mode.)

I would be inclined to send it back again. Better to have it exactly right while it's under warranty than have it nagging you and also affecting the value of it in case you ever decide to sell it.

okay, really stupid question here, but is there a diopter adjustment on the side of the viewfinder? That would cause that. Should be a little dial jsut to the side...
