How did you guys decide when to do a trial run with a makeup artist or hair stylist? Did you do the run during your visit for a planning session?

Is it pointless to do the trial run that early? I might get a new hairstyle or at least chop off a ton of hair before my wedding. So then how would they even know what they're working with?

My fiance and I might be going down for an engagement photo shoot next month, and I was thinking maybe I could do a "trial run" then and look nice for the shoot? But it's still gonna be different than wedding makeup kinda?

LOL This whole post is questions, sorry I'm just a bit confused about how choosing and booking a makeup/hair person is done.

I did mine right before our engagement shoot, and it was great b/c then I could see exactly what the makeup and hair would look like in pix.

To me it doesn't really matter if you later change your mind about your hairstyle, it's meeting your cosmetologist and seeing her style and how easy it is to work with her to get what you want. In fact, seeing our pictures showed me that I wanted something different than I originally thought. Same with the makeup - I could tell that I wanted to skip using bronzer on my wedding day when I kept asking DH to Photoshop it out of our engagement pix. :lmao:

I chose my cosmetologist by looking at pictures of many different brides on these boards and the Knot boards to see which makeup style I liked the best (I knew anyone I picked could do the hairstyle I wanted). I set up a trial run during my planning session visit to see if she truly did the style of hair and makeup I was looking for, and I wasn't disappointed!

I'm doing a trail hair/makeup during my planning session. Approximatly nine months prior to my day. But- it's the only time I'll be out in CA before the wedding.

We did ours during a planning session. Basically I got hair and makeup for our engagement photos and then had a few styles that I liked. I also looked on her website to determine what I liked best of what she had done.
