Any Trex "dekkies" out there?
DP Maddy and I are seriously considering Trex for our large second story deck and are interested in hearing comments about Trex from those of you who have alternative (non-wood) type decks.
If you chose another brand, such as TimberTech, what factors influenced you toward that brand instead of Trex?
Our contractor is experienced with installing Trex and also chose Trex for his own home, so we are comfortable with that aspect, but are curious whether we should consider some of the other brands.

too funny that you posted this today, I have been calling all over trying to find a Trek dealer for a small deck in the front of my house, it seems they they only carry gray everything else needs to be ordered, I have a tan house and I am trying to decide what color, too hard by just looking at swatches on the internet. Good luck I love the product, my brother has a good size deck on the back of his house made of this stuff and it looks great.

I have friends in New Hampshire who built a huge deck out of Trex and they love it. Best stuff ever. My DH has a carpenter/contractor friend who recommends it highly as well. We don't have a deck, we have a patio so I don't have personal experience with it.

This is our deck. Trex, the brown/red color.... shoot Charlie woke up, got to run, will post thoughts later! LOL

Okay back, for now! LOL

As you can see we have a rather large trex deck. For the most part I love it. The Trex feels very very nice under the feet.... smooth.. almost soft. And due to the nature of Trex, there are no screw or nail holes visible, makes for a clean look.

Trex doesnt like grease. We have a couple of stains under the grill that, maybe if I had tried to clean up, as they happened, they wouldnt be as badm but I can barely finsih a post these days let alone attack grease every second! I did manage to 'sand' out a couple of other stains though. And this summer I decided to power wash it. Boy! That is bringing it right back to life. I didnt htink it was that dirty until 2000psi of water hit it! LOL

I would reccomend Trex. But then again our deck is only 2 years old, so I have no real long term info.

We went with Trex just because that is what our contractors used, and I liked the brown/red color... it goes so nicely with our pool. I had heard about Trex for a couple of years, and the comments were always favorable. My only gripe is grease is a pain, but then again, grease could be a pain on all other decking material as well.

If you have anymore questions let me know! I will try to help!

My parents have Trex decking on their second story deck. It was here when we moved into the house, in 1998. It's the Saddle color, and it's faded to a really pretty tan color. The deck is curved, sort of convex on the side away from the back of the house.

They're really happy with it. They don't cook on that deck, though, so I don't know how it handles with grease.

My husband is a General Contractor and all he has been using are 'composites' - trex being the name brand - other brands are available and he has used several and loves them as do the customers!

oh - I forgot to say that ours is TREX and I love it - no pressure treated splinters YA! Just make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing put it down our I have heard that you can get 'waves' in the boards if they are not secured properly!

Thanks to all who posted. Sounds like DP Janner and I are on the right track with our choices. Can't wait!

I have a Trex Deck (same color as Laurabearz). I also stained the treated subframe the same color.

I had a contractor do the frame, but I did the flooring, railings, spindles and stair-treads.

For building purposes it works well in warm temperatures, but when it's cold, don't even think about trying to drill or screw into it...at 50 degrees or lower, I was snapping off 3 out of every 4 stainless steel screws. It is also very "hard" on saw blades...the 4x4 posts especially. I haven't had much time with it, only a year, but I love it so far.

I looked at Certainteed's vinyl and composit decks, buit my BIL is a builder and when he placed his last Trex order I opted in to take advantage of his volume discount.

Overall I'm happy with it, probably more so than I would have been with a very "loud" looking puire white vinyl deck...this looks like redwood from a distance so I like that aspect of it.
