Has anyone ever flown out of Trenton-Mercer, NJ Airport? Frontier is making it its east coast hub and has some really good ticket prices. I know it is a small airport but wonder what it is like and if there are any services past security.

I've been wondering the same thing. The only thing I know for sure is that parking is free.

I overheard a coworker recommend Frontier at Mercer Airport said she had used them a few times. I work in Trenton didn't even know there was an airport nearby lol.

That is good to hear! We are taking advantage of their new route special. Got tix for $148 round trip including checked baggage. We don't go until May but I am a planner and it is killing me to not know anything about this airport. Since we have a 6:30 am flight, I guess we will just bring our breakfast and hope there is at least vending machines for drinks.

I have mixed feelings. While you don't have the amenities of a large airport, you also don't have the hassle since we will be the only plane taking off.

I did talk to someone who lives out there and will be flying out of there, but not until Spring. As far as he knows, parking is free (for now) and there was a resturant but it went out of business just before Frontier went in. Also, since they are the only airline out of that airport, there is no waiting, no crowds, and no trouble on the tarmac (waiting for departure time). That part sounds good! It's not that far of a drive for us either, so very possibly next time, I can fly out of there as well! :thumbsup2

They told me that parking is free until July. Made it sound like they may change that.

I remember when parking was free at AC airport.

I may try it at some point too, I often drive out to Philly for the best fares (usually less than Newark).

I flying out of here to new Orleans in may. If that trip goes smoothly i will definitely consider them for my Disney trips.

Being the only airline can be a curse, too...nothing in the way of alternatives in the event of equipment or weather issues. With limited daily flights there are zero alternatives if your plane can't take off.

Don't get me wrong...it will be a great option for many...as long as there are no glitches along the way.

Here is TTN's response to my email about food/drinks.

Unfortunately, there are no beverages or snacks/food past the security checkpoint. You are allowed to bring unopened/sealed snack packages but no beverages. We are trying to remedy this situation. Thank you for your interest in Trenton-Mercer Airport.

Here's a link to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer from last weekend. The free parking seems like it will last until they decide to expand or reconfigure the terminal, which is going to be a while.

Bad news about nowhere to purchase drinks after security since Frontier charges for beverages on the plane. If nothing else, you'd think they could temporarily put in a few large vending machines after security.

We're booked on a flight from Orlando to Trenton in April. We were able to get a $49 fare, which we upgraded to $74 to get the 2 free bags, free tv, etc.

Frontier's website says they offer complimentary non-alcoholic beverages but charges for alcohol/premium beverages and snacks.

We flew out of there 2 weeks ago. It is nothing like any other airport. It is tiny. The building is just 2 stories and not much bigger than a house. On the top floor that you enter from the parking lost is bathrooms and check in. Then downstairs is security and the waiting area. I wouldn't call it a terminal. The waiting area is no where near large enough to accommodate the people waiting for the flight. The room got unbearably crowded and stuffy too. The one single vending machine is prior to the security so I got very thirsty and overheated waiting for the plane. Bring your own snacks since you have to pay for them n the plane.
That said, it definitely beat out the larger airports as far as convenience. When we returned home I could not get over how fast we were off the plane. From wheels down to in my car was 7 minutes. Can't beat that!

Thanks for this. I've been wondering about the terminal here. I plan on flying from here for our Dec 2013 trip. Between the prices and the convenience (it's less than 20 minutes from our house) it seems like a good idea. I'm not expecting anything fancy. I just want to get on the plane and get to Disney!

I heard that several restaurants expressed an interest in providing at least grab and go. I hope they at least put a vending machine in the waiting area before we go in May. Do you know how much earlier than takeoff the ticket counter opens?

A different coworker flew out of there last week (Thurs eve or Fri am, not sure) and said this as well. Her concern was no bathroom after Security!
They did have a wait but it could have been due to the weather here. She also said they offered free tv for the delay but there was only static on the sound so she gave up. She also thought it was weird going out on the tarmac (not a biggie to me, I have done that before!).
I would definitely think SOME type of food/drink should be available once you get past Security...hopefully someone will take care of that.

....didn't read all the posts....do they fly to MCO????
