Has anyone heard of treehouses being built and if this is true when would they be available to rent?

Thank You.

Yes they are in the process. They will also be part of DVC. Rumor (not sure if confirmed or not yet) is that they will be part of Saratoga Springs. So, if it is true and you own DVC there - you might have a great opportunity to get into them!

Treehouses again!
Wow! Disney is looking better and better to me!
Not a DVC member, that's not in the cards for me, but I sure will be looking buying/renting/doing whatever is needed to climb into a treehouse!

When will they be open for stays?

They are confirmed as being part of SSR, and will cost the same amount of points as a 2-bedroom villa at SSR. It's possible (but not very likely) that you might be able to occasionally pick one up through CRO, but if you really want to stay at one, you either need to be a DVC owner (ideally with SSR as your home resort) or renting a reservation from one. They should open this summer.

There will be 60 treehouse villas. They will sleep nine with three bedrooms at the price of a two bedroom at SSR. There will not be a kingsized bed in the master bedroom, only a queen. Another queen in the second bedroom. A set of bunk beds in the third bedroom. Sleeper sofa in the living room with a sleeper chair.

I think they are scheduled to be open this upcoming summer.

For those who don't know what the Treehouse Villas are like, go Google it. Because "treehouse" invokes a certain image, and it may not jive with what the Treehouse Villas are really like.

That said, I LOVE THEM and have long dreamed of staying in one!! They are beautiful! But they aren't quite "in a tree" kind of treehouse.

Here is an old Phototour on MousePlanet. There is a lot more info online about the remodel around the web now as well.

Here are a couple of recent (Oct 22) photos of the Treehouse construction: :yay:

I stayed in the treehouses before they closed and it was great. Although, I did not feel like I was at Disney, it felt like I was renting a house in the middle of Florida. It was quite roomy and very private. I know they had to close them because of the need of serious repairs. I guess there were serious termite problems.

I believe there was also a problem with the ADA because they were not handicap accessable. I wonder if the new ones will be?

There was but they will be compliant now from what I have heard, this was the only way the whole thing could have moved forward.

SSR is our home resort and I cannot wait for these to open!! I will be calling at my 11 month mark on the day! :cool1:

The ADA gets brought up, but was not really a problem. I don't have confirmation of this, but have read that several actually were handicapped accessible.
If none were, they would not have to convert all of them, just a few.
For 60 units, they would only have needed to make 4 wheelchair accessible and one with a roll in shower. That would not have been that hard to do - they could have added a ramp, lift or elevator that went to the deck that was outside each Treehouse. Some of the Treehouses were fairly close together and could have shared a ramp or elevator. A roll in shower takes as much space as a tub; depending on the size/arrangement of the bathroom in the old Treehouses, they might have been able to convert a tub to a roll in shower without changing the arrangement of the bathroom.
Even if they had to do more extensive remodeling, there would only be a need for one Treehouse with a roll in shower.
