Hi. I spoke to my DVC guide today about the new announcements. Although she confirmed a lot of the BLT info that's on Disboards, she said DVC had told her nothing about the Treehouses, and was very surprised to hear about them from me.

Any specific details you have heard (prices, point chart, sizes of units, etc.)?

Thanks.

Anyone know if they will be a separate resort or part of SSR? Looking for booking info for the future! It would cool if it was part of SSR and so I could book 11 mos out!

From what I have read, they are building 60 three bedroom Treehouse Villas.

Everything I read indicates they would be a part of SSR in their entirety. Only 3 bedroom villas though so they will be some hefty points, I suspect.

What? No treehouse studio??
:surfweb:

The Treehouse Villas were officially announced in today's press release - including a Fact Sheet and artist renderings of the layout. There will be 60 THVs and it will part of SSR - due to open in Spring, 2009.

No sales information or point charts have been released. These will all be 3 BR villas - which will sleep a max of 9. There will not be any 1BRs,2BRs or Studios in this area. It is simply an additional phase for SSR.

Stay Tuned! :)

What I read said "Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs Resort" which to me means we get 11mos window!!! :) :)

The tree house area, the way I recall it, had a similar feel to Ft. Wilderness. Very woodsy. It seems that they have to be declared as part of SSR as that's the way the land is already set up. I don't think Disney really wanted them to be SSR themed and will be very surprised to see if they do bring in some theming there.

I'm wondering if they're knocking down the old tree houses and replacing them from the 'root - up'. Various rumors have floated around over the years from "Disney can't touch the area due to flooding" to "Disney's allowed to refurbish existing buildings, but not build new ones on that land." I don't know if there was any truth in these. Anyone have any info - it'd be good reading!

I read somewhere that the treehouses are being built in a factory in Pennsylvania and then brought in above the tree tops. They will be all new and the old ones taken away. I believe this was a way around the wetlands issues.

I read on allears.net that the old tree houses were torn down and the new ones will be built in their place.

I can remember seeing the old treehouses in 2005 when we rode the boat from Port Orleans to DD. They were really interesting to me at the time and I wondered what you could do to stay there. Guess now I can book a vacation next year! :cool1:

I think Disney's chosen to convert this part of the property to DVC simply because they have no clue what else to do with it. By refurbishing the place it'll at least pay for itself several times over in the years to come. The funny part to me is that there will be many folk who want to give the resort a try simply because of the name 'tree house'. Of them, probably only half will enjoy the resort as the units are not tree houses in the true sense of the word. I'd love to try them, but then I love Disney's cabins too :D

Hm. the more I think about this the more questions arise. For one: Will all the units be 1 & 2 bedroom and grand villas? It'll be interesting to see if they can go with studios in that setup... but then Disney's design team is the best.

Original tree "house" stuctures have been removed, however, their "footprint" remains & was not changed (think it was actually somehow decreased - don't know if that referred to the base/foundation or the "house" part) so this enabled Disney to satisfy what it needed to in terms of flood, environmental standards. I read an interesting piece about this just couple of weeks ago; I will try to track it down and post.

The new tree house villa will be 3 bedrooms: it will sleep 2 persons per bedroom ( one bedroom will have a bunk bed with other two bedrooms having a queen, pull out sofa that sleeps 2 and pull out chair that sleeps 1 for total occupancy of 9 persons with all bedrooms & living areas/bathrooms located completely on 1 level ( 2 bathrooms & living/dining/kitchen complete the villa.) This is only configuration. There is only 1 unit per tree house.

Mouseplanet.com has info & photos on original tree houses back the day on wdw trip planning pages.

I believe the pedestal footprint - the part of the treehouse that contacts the ground - was reduced from around 340 sq. ft. to something like 84 sq. ft.

The living area dimensions are similar if not larger to the original.

But in essence, Disney has returned over 15,000 sq. ft. to wetlands.

Here is a previous thread on it...

Does anyone have any idea what the points will be for these......same as Saratoga Grand Villa? When can we start booking for 2009?!!!:rotfl:

There are some on this board with good reliable sources that say they will have the same point value as a 2 BR villa. The lower point value is a trade off from being farther away from the main area and ammenities at the resort. Point charts will be released at a future date.

My question is how is this area going to be incorporated into the bus route? Are we all going to have another stop? This would be my guess as I don't see this area deserving of it's own service.

When are the villas scheduled to actually open? Do we know when booking will open? Love the idea of these.........always have a look at the treehouses from a water mouse when staying at OKW! :rotfl:

When speaking with my guide about both of yesterday's announcements - I pressed hard on the THV more than BLT since we'd be interested in THV and not BLT. She told me that no points charts have been finalized yet but should be in the next few weeks, and that they are looking to be open by June... She did tell me that THV would be a part of SSR, but considered a separate resort. I guess it all remains to be seen in the coming weeks.
she wasn't positive about when sales would start, but was optimistic that they might start in a month or so. Of the 2 part announcement - her impression was that it was pretty much a 90/10 split favoring BLT.

I think price points in line with the SSR 2 bedroom are certainly warranted, since they will only sleep one more person than a 2 bedroom.

As for bus stops. I'm going to guess that they will have their own bus service, but it might be a single stop.
