Treehouse Villa/ 2BR question

My family and I have our hearts set on a treehouse villa from Nov 29 - Dec 5, 2009. My home resort is SSR so we will be one of the people who get first dibs. Here is my question - do you think I should book a 2BR at SSR for that time period now that I am under the 11 month window - or do you think that I should just wait until I see whether or not I get a treehouse.

Just wondering what others would do. . . .

I probably would not want to stay at SSR, if a treehouse villa were not available, but since I have no other points I'd have to wait until 7 months.

If you are not willing to stay in a 2br villa at SSR, then there should be no reason to reserve one. Were you planning on trying to reserve at another resort instead?

Myself, I would book at SSR just to make sure you have a place to stay, and then when the 7 month window opens, try switching to another resort. Call on the treehouses when they become available. I would want to make sure I had at least one reservation in, then try to change it to what I prefer.

would book it now regardless - then try and change over Feb 1 - Treehouse is part of SSR - so don't think if you call early you will have any problems

Just to clarify, I have no problem with SSRinfact I like it alot, but it was the last resort we stayed at, and the one we have been to the most often.

We would hope to get AKV or BWV at 7 months if our treehouse fell through.

Guess it will depend on how in depend the treehouses will be.

I'm in the same boat as we will be trying for a THV for Nov 19th - Nov 21st for after our Wonder cruise. I decided not to book a 2 bdrm now as Feb 8th will be before the 7 month booking window so we shouldn't have a problem getting a unit somewhere.

I don't have enough SSR points left to book both the 2 bdrm and THV without having to cancel the first reservation in order to book the THV. I figure I'll save time by just trying for the THV and if I don't get it I'll book either a 2 bdrm at SSR or whatever is available at the 7 month window somewhere else.

I have a 2brm booked at SSR for 11/7-14. I will be calling for the THV on Feb. 8th with everyone else. MS told me to call the day before to see if there were many 2 bdrms. available for our timeframe and if so cancel our 2bdrm then so I won't need to cancel and re book the THV on the 8th. Not sure if I will do that or not.

Why is it a concern to cancel an existing SSR ressie and to rebook THV? They are not using any extra points. Extra time???

Extra time is the worry.

If you are going to be calling first thing because you are concerned about not being able to book, then it would make sense to spend as little time booking as possible. Time spent cancelling a reservation to free up points may cause you to miss out on a THV reservation. It may be a small risk, but why add any risk if you don't need to?

how many points for a 2 bedroom THV and when can you start staying there I do have SSR points

The points required are the same as SSR 2br villas.
They will all have 3brs.
The treehouses are said to be opening June 1, 2009.

Is there a different date for owners and non-owners??

SSR owners can book Feb 8th, non-SSR owners can book Feb 22.

This was pretty much exactly what my advice was going to be. There is virtually no chance you won't be able to book a 2BR at SSR on Feb 9. Having an existing reservation will complicate and slow down your attempt to book a THV.
