Is this product sold nationally? Or is it just a NJ regional thing?

We hadn't gotten one in ages, then split one for lunch yesterday. And my, my, it was better than I remembered! We used to have them a lot when I was growing up.

Tree Tavern and Celentano were the best frozen pizza brands when I was a kid. My father used to sprinkle a little olive on the Tree Tavern pie, then cut it with these ginormous pizza scissors we had.

The Celentano one is sadly not sold anymore. :( Originally, it came in a disposable, aluminum tray. Later on, they changed the foil tray to a cardboard one, and the flavor just wasn't as good after the change. Then they stopped selling it altogether.

Anyone remember these?

JJ, I haven't seen a Tree Tavern pizza in years. I grew up on them. I don't remember the Celentano ones.

I remember Tree Tavern. We must have been poor, because a frozen Tree Tavern pizza was a big treat. I didn't know you could still buy them.

Jenny: no Mystic pizza to my knowledge around here.

WHen I was a kid all you could get was Elliot's, Celeste's and LaPizzaria.
Lapizzaria is gone and Celeste has shrunk

Elliot's or Ellio's?

I don't know Elliot's but the cardboard in a box called Ellio's is nasty!

Vicky, my ShopRite sells Tree Tavern. I'm surprised you don't remember the Celentano pizzas. They were a big square shape. They were very popular with kids in the '70's. When the '80's rolled around and they went to the cardboard tray, they also cut back on the amount of cheese in them. I think that's why they stopped selling them--they wrecked the product so much, people stopped buying them. (Nice to "see" you BTW. :) )

Jenny, I have had Mystic Frozen Pizza and it is very good, I agree. It doesn't have the nostaglic value of Tree Tavern though. Tree Taverns are made by a small company in Paterson, NJ. The box says that the pies were originally sold in a Paterson bar called Tree Tavern (of course!).

Pixiechick, I felt a little extravagant buying that pie yesterday. It's up to $4.99. For a few bucks much, we could have a fresh full-sized pie delivered.
