We recently returned from a week at the Treehouses at SSR. I am a DVC owner at SSR and have stayed there several times in the past and always wanted to stay at the Treehouses. Since our whole family was coming on vacation, 6 adults and 1 toddler, I thought the Treehouse would work well for us. I will not stay there again and here is why:

We had requested a villa near the Grandstand walkway, but that did not happen. Our villa was half way up the main road in a densely forested area with no view except trees. It took sometimes over a half an hour to get from the Treehouses to the Springs area for the park buses. After a day or two of this most of us walked through the golf course to the Grandstand area bus stop. This was a little over 10 minutes, which does not sound like a lot of time, but believe me that at night that extra walking is not pleasant.

The villa itself was a disappointment too. It was not very clean, we found things under the beds in two rooms and the window sills were dirty with cob webs. The dishwasher was functional but broken, it kept falling off the tracks. The Towel and Trash came at 830AM on the 4th day and since there were people in both bathrooms, she just dumped the fresh stuff on the table and waited while I collected the trash.

There were no extra sheets or blankets for either the pull out couch or the pack and play. We had to call over to the main building at midnight to get these things.

On top of this the Magic Bands did not unlock the doors so when came back from the parks the first night we had to go back to the Main building to have all our Magic Bands reset. It took three days for all the Magic Bands to work.

My advice to anyone who wants to stay here is to bring a car; it is very spread out and far away from everything. Plan on 45 minutes to an hour to get back and forth each way.

I love SSR, but would not advise my friends to stay in the Treehouses.

Sad to hear you did not enjoy the Treehouses. We love them. I agree a car is a must. I believe I would look negative on a treehouse if I had to use the bus system. I agree your location was less than ideal if you too the bus. Bummer.... Sound like you had poor house keeping. We had almost the exact experience with OKW. The room was terrible broken bed. 3 trips from managers. So I can understand a how a not up kept villa can make your stay unpleasant

We have always wanted to try the treehouses, but I don't think we ever will. We never rent a car and I can't imagine going through the bus situation with the treehouses. It seems they are truly best for those who have a vehicle.

Your issues had little to do with the tree houses other than the location. The maintenance, housekeeping, and cleaning issues have happened to us at all of the resorts at one time or another.

We stayed in the treehouse's in March after our cruise and loved it. We are SSR owners and my husband has always wanted to give it a try. I loved not hearing people running up and down the hallways, and the privacy it gave us.

We did not have a car with us and walked to the Grandstand bus stop every day. We enjoyed the walk and the scenery...

I will say, we did have the same issue with our magic bands and the front door, but hopefully that was just a new glitchy thing..

We want to try all the DVC resorts, so I'm sure it will be a while before we go back to the treehouses, but I'm sure we'll be back

We too stayed in a treehouse last March and had absolutely no issues with the door. We had a car but far too many people for the car so we often walked over to the Grandstand bus stop. We really enjoyed the treehouse and will probably be back in them at some point. It was really comfortable and quiet (though you couldn't really tell with 4 boys in the place :)

Our all time favorite resort is the Treehouses we had our best DVC stay ever there. I wouldn't even consider doing it without a car though and I agree mouse keeping are ridiculous with there times. We just made them come back later if it wasn't a good time. On check out day they knocked at our door at 8am wanting in to clean I told then we would leave at 11 am. When the same CM came back half an hour later pushing to get in to clean I phoned reception and complained and it stopped.

On check out day we put out the do not disturb sign.

We had the same thing happen at BLT on check out day. I think we even had the do not disturb sign out as we were still sleeping.

We've had one stay in the THV's and although we had a car we often still used the buses. IMO by the time you factor in driving, parking and taking a tram to the park gates the short wait for the internal bus really evens a lot of it out. We also would note when a bus had gone past the Treehouse and estimate when we should go to the bus stop. It did take a little more time upfront but the bus running thru the THV's was very consistent while we were there and it takes you right to the Springs to catch whatever park bus you are looking for.

We also had trouble with the keys (this was pre-MB). I think we had one that worked so we were able to get into the room and called and they ran over new ones for us. Kind of a pain but they were very helpful in getting it corrected.
