Treatment for scars - what works?

I know this sounds like a weird post, but let me explain. My 6 year old daughter fell and broke her arm 2 months ago and had to have 2 surgeries (one to put the pins in and another to take them out) to repair it. Now she has a large, long scar down her arm from about 2 inches above her elbow to about 2 inches below the elbow. I was wondering what, if any, scar treatments any of you have tried and what has or hasn't worked. I'm specifically looking for responses about the silicone scar patches or Mederma, but I'll gladly take suggestions on other thing that might help fade the scar. Thanks!!!!

Vitamin E, or Emu oil. I can't help with the products you're specifically asking about.

I don't know about the two items you mentioned but I used vitamin E capsules. I used to poke them with a pin and squeeze out the gel. Not sure if it faded it or not. I used it for about a year for a 6 inch scar on my shoulder.

for your DD. And if it helps any, my DM was more concerned about my scar than I was. I was 16 at the time and she was concerned that I could never wear a strapless wedding gown. I think it still bothers her because whenever she sees it she makes some sort of comment. It stopped bothering me once it stopped hurting (p.s. I'm 41).

Most importantly hide the scar from sunlight. My son fell into a thorn bush at school during PE. The one side of his face was seriously scratched. After it healed, we used maderma and suncreen. It's 4 years later and I can't tell which side of his face had the scars.

my husband had surgury on his arm below and above his elbow when he fell off a ladder and broke it and dislocated it. Most important thing that was mentioned is to make sure that when outdoors to use suntan lotion or put a covering over it. The Vitamin E also was put to good use too. Please know that if it is a good size scar that the chances of it being there in a few years are high.

But she is just a little person and her skin is going to grow with her and may grow away. Keep it out of the sun is the main thing
