Hi,
When I booked it I couldn't find much about this hotel on the Disboards, so here is my quick review:
Official Website: http://www.travelodgedisneylanddr.com/
Tripadvisor Photos & Reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...ws-Travelodge_Anaheim-Anaheim_California.html
This is a Disney "Good neighbor hotel".
Beeline distance from hotel lobby to Sleeping Beauty Castle: 0.45 miles
(that is the same beeline distance as from Sleeping Beauty Castle to Tower of Terror).
Walking Distance from Disneyland Plaza: 1 mile exactly
(I tracked the exact path on Google Earth from the Lobby to the middle of the Plaza. See lime green path on the map).
Walking Distance to Downtown Disney (Wetzel Pretzel): 0.8 miles.
Review:
I stayed in the Travelodge Anaheim on Disneyland Drive because I needed a cheap accommodation in walking distance of the parks. The price was only $45 for the room including Wifi access and "continental breakfast" (advance purchase rate in February) which seemed like a great deal. The pictures and reviews were mediocre, not too bad but also not too good.
I chose the Travelodge because most motels on Harbor Boulevard were asking at least 50% more, without having considerably better pictures or reviews.
The staff was okay (3 out of 5 points). They weren't very enthusiastic but they got things done. Check-in, check-out, storing bags in the luggage room, calling a taxi: No complaints.
The exterior of the motel looks very old and run down (1 out of 5 points). When going upstairs to my room I seriously started having second thoughts about my choice of accommodation.
The room itself turned out to be good though (4 out of 5 points). It was a huge room with a standard efficient design. It was very clean. Many amenities such as a big flat screen tv, blow dryer, iron and ironing board, fridge, microwave, alarm clock, phone, etc. were available. This room had two Queen size beds with good comfortable mattresses. My only complaint about the room is that the blankets were thin. I had to use the one from the other bed as well. If I was with my family I would've had to ask for additional blankets to not be cold in the winter. Other than that, the room was really nice, clean and well maintained for such a motel in my opinion. As a special touch of magic they had Disney pictures on the walls and "glow in the dark" stars on the ceiling that you only saw when switching the lights off. It was nice to see and it not too bright (I need a pitch black room to sleep).
There was also a small balcony. Because of the proximity to the back side of Disneyland, most rooms have a view of the fireworks. That does include a substantial amount of noise though! One night it really freaked me out when it woke me up
. Other than during fireworks time the room was very quiet.
The breakfast was bad (1 out of 5 points). They had a coffee machine, orange juice, toast with a toaster, jam and 1 kind of danish. That's all. The breakfast room didn't look nice either. It meant I'd take my breakfast danish to go, and grab a sandwich on my way to Disney.
The distance to Disneyland is good enough to me (3 out of 5 points) but may not be acceptable to others, especially if you need a wheelchair, push strollers, have small children, or are not used to walking regularly. The walk took me 20 minutes but I am a fast walker so most people would probably need 5-10 mins more. At least it's an extremely easy walk and it felt very safe, even at night:
From the hotel lobby you cross the street and turn right into Disneyland Drive. You follow Disneyland Drive until you see the Monorail tracks. Underneath the Monorail you turn left and follow this path until Downtown Disney or the Plaza.
Right next to the hotel is a gas station with a great selection of snacks, soda, etc.
Pros:
-Very cheap compared to other motels.
-Very clean room.
-Large room.
-Comfortable beds and mattresses.
-Many in room amenities.
-Walking distance to Disney.
-Efficient staff.
-Many rooms with view of Disneyland fireworks.
-Gas station with many snacks next door.
-Safe area.
Cons:
-Walk to Disney probably too long for some.
-Exterior looks very old and not well maintained.
-Very poor breakfast.
-No sleep during Disneyland fireworks due to proximity.
-Staff not smiling much.
Total: 3 out of 5 points.
I will stay there again if it's cheaper than the hotels that are closer to the parks. When staying for a week or more, when I want extra convenience or a bit of luxury, I will go for different hotels though, such as the Disney hotels for example.
I can really recommend this hotel IF you are aware of the above negative points and not expect more than a clean motel room.
Best Regards,
Wuzefelix
