Travelocity: Orlando rides have thrills

Several Orlando theme-park rides made this summer's list of top attractions as compiled by editors of Travelocity.

From Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom to Dueling Dragons at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure, Orlando had four of the editors' 10 picks.

"Millions of U.S. travelers head to theme parks each year in search of rides, games and shows," Jennifer Gaines, a Travelocity editor, said in a statement. "Theme park rides remain the top attraction, and they run the gamut, catering to everyone from families with kids to true adrenaline junkies."

Also on the list: Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld Orlando and Pirates of the Caribbean at the Magic Kingdom.

The editors also mentioned Animal Kingdom's new Expedition Everest ride as something new in 2006.

Travelocity is a leading travel agency.

Daily flights to White Plains

Orlando-based AirTran Airways has launched daily nonstop service from Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., to Orlando, West Palm Beach and Atlanta. Westchester County is home to the third airport in the New York area served by AirTran. The airline also flies out of LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. The airline's new service from White Plains will feature Boeing 717s and offer connections to more than 35 other cities.

Disney offers Jedi training

Walt Disney World is testing a new Jedi Academy training attraction mixing face characters and young visitors outdoors at Disney-MGM Studios.

On select days, several times a day, actors depicting Star Wars characters invite up to a dozen children to take part in Jedi training exercises in the Star Tours ride.

With padawan robes and training light sabers, the children are taught moves and how to use "The Force." Actors playing Darth Vader or Darth Maul then enter the area and try to use the "Dark Side."

Disney spokesman Gary Buchanan said the sidewalk attraction is being tested to see if it should be added daily and full time during the park's annual Star Wars weekends in May and June.

Blue Rose to begin first phase

Developers of the Blue Rose condominium hotel on Universal Drive say they have sold enough units to begin construction on the project's first phase, a 515-unit, 39-story tower. CMA Development Group of Miami says it has sold 320 units worth $130 million. It also says it is planning to announce what it calls a major off-site amenity in early June.

Holy Land's Easter events

The Holy Land Experience attraction at Interstate 4 and Conroy Road is featuring a series of Easter shows through Saturday that it calls "Follow Me: The Road to Resurrection."

The events include musical dramas, vignettes and presentations related to Jesus, with names like "The Wedding at Cana" and "The Ministry of Jesus."

The park's Easter season ends Saturday. The Holy Land Experience is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cape Air, academy connect

Sanford-based Delta Connection Academy has announced a new partnership with Cape Air/Nantucket Airlines.

The pilot training school at Orlando Sanford International Airport will provide transition training to new-hire pilots at Cape Air. In addition, Cape Air will offer guaranteed job interviews to graduates of the academy.

Cape Air, which flies the world's largest Cessna 402-C fleet, has pilot bases in Florida, the Caribbean, New England and Micronesia. Delta Connection Academy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.
